It's Offical: K Rock Changing it's Name, Format and Call letters on Mon April 2

What do you mean by phasing out the Free FM branding? Are they going to stop changing stations over to "Free FM" of revert stations already "Free"d? The taking away of a station's identity for the dopey Free FM name was moronic. Yous are lucky that k-rock is getting into the game late. But then again, we haven't see everything "The Zone" has to offer yet. I'm listening to the stream, so ive heard the promos. Likening the station to the "boys only treehouse" is just screaming ratings gold to me. Paulson will regret jumping ship.

From what I have been able to gather, CBS will not be using the Free FM branding on any other FM stations. Also, they are going to slowly remove the Free FM brand from their current stations. It might lead to some of the Free FM stations either a) keeping a talk format but under a different identity, or b) changing the format entirely. CBS Radio has yet to place a time table as to when this will happen. If I were to guess, it will probably come either a little before or directly after Joel Hollander walks out the door. I believe a lot of CBS Radio execs used WKRP in Cincinnati as training videos.

Lets hope "The Man Station" works for 93.7. Its been an absolute waste of a great frequency since the change to K-Rock. To think therir was a day with a bunch of suits sitting around to made the decision to blow up B-94. I'm sure they've all been fired for this and other mistakes they made

In response to the posting above, those same suits that made that decision to blow it up are still employed by CBS. Look at the common factors when examining the 93.7 frequency the last 4-5 years. B94, 93-7 BZZ, B93-7, 93.7 K-Rock, and now 93-7 The Zone. Who's been in charge? Keith Clark and Ryan Mill. Nothing against those two, but until they're blown out no format will ever succeed on that frequency. It is time to get someone else to program it given their track record for failure.

Just my 2 cents.

Here's an off the wall question. The voice announcing The Zone, is that also the voice of WDVE?

No.

I can't figure out where I've heard the voice before. Maybe from eastern PA (105.7 The X in York) or one of the San Jose radio stations.

The announcer for The Zone sounds like the same exact guy that did the announcing for K Rock.

Is it me, or is the music shifting to a more classic rock type format in recent days? Certainly not the selection I've known on K-Rock. For example I just heard Living On A Prayer - we never had to listen to Bon Jovi unless it was on Hair Ball and I had to change stations. Is this a preview of the music we'll hear on weekends like on FreeFM formats? I know 94.1 WYSP FreeFM in Philly is classic rock leaning. (Still disappointed because WYSP used to be THE rock station in Philadelphia and WMMR was #2).

Good Point Steelrocker. I noticed that also. I've been hearing a lot of Tom Petty and Pink Floyd lately as well on K ROCK. Did they confirm the night host yet for the zone?

I just heard Rick Derringer ...Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo while on the way to get pizza. Thats it, back to The X. Too bad we can't pick up Real Rock 104 in Mercer here in Cranberry Twp. (or WMMS in Cleveland).

What's bad about Rick Derringer is that they have been sneaking him in for over a year. My understanding is they won't be having music on the weekends or late nights unlike the Free FM branded stations. They will have some sort of networked talkers from out-of-town.

I was in my truck for about 10 minutes this afternoon and the Nascar race was on. When it broke for a commercial, they were using the new callsign and "The Zone". Sure wish this was just an April Fools joke and tomorrow we hear K-Rock again.

That's funny....when I told you a month ago it would be a talk station (no music), you acted like you were insulted.

WTF Boss Radio. I don't know what you're talking about but should we all bow down and kiss your ring or something?

Steel, I think Boss was talking about me. What I was trying to say was that over a month ago, CBS Radio was dead set on turning K Rock to a Free FM and having their Free Rock weekend like the rest of the Free FM debacles in the country. It is my understanding that those who are supposedly in the know don't even know what the hell to do with the station. They will probably air those horrible radio infomercials that WRKZ used to air real late at night all weekend.
