It's Offical: Tricio, Kornheiser, and Theismann on MNF booth

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2323121

It also mention that Mike Breen is the new play-by-play guy for ABC's

NBA coverage

So I guess this means that Al Micahels will jump ship to NBC with John Madden

It's not offical yet

But I wouldn't be suprise when the annoucement will take place.

I for one am glad to see this happen

Maybe now they will stop calling Theismann a villian

now that mr. part time comedian kornheiser has something to do on Mondays.

Michaels And The Peacock (Was: Re: It's Offical: Tricio, Kornheiser, and Theismann on MNF booth)

Could Al Michaels debut on NBC sooner than the NFL pre-season in August??

Although Mike Emrick is NBC's lead NHL play-by-play man (Emrick is scheduled to call much of NBC/USA's hockey coverage at Turin/Torino, including both the men's and women's championship games), could NBC drop or demote Emrick after the Olympics end and replace him with Michaels for the final two weeks of the regular-season and the playoffs (NBC won't have another NHL telecast until April 8th, the second-to-last weekend of the regular-season)??

The only thing I'm surprised about is that Michaels isn't staying at ABC until the NBA Finals conclude in mid-June. I expected Michaels would have stayed at ABC for the rest of ther NBA season, then leave.

At this writing (12:10 P.M. EST February 8th), there has been no official word from NBC on Michaels' coming aboard.

However, this afternoon at 2 P.M. Eastern time, NBC is scheduled to have a conference call to the news media about the network's coverage of the Winter Olympics, especially coverage of figure-skating, alpine skiing, and long-track speed-skating. But with many reporters "on the line", NBC might use it to make the Michaels hiring official.

No. As I mentioned before, Michaels has previously expressed no desire to return to calling hockey. NBC already has America's premier hockey voice in house and are paying him a handsome sum to do so.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Michaels in Torino, but not calling a sport.

Thursday night college football

I have a feeling that since Mike Tirico will presumably give up his duties of calling Thursday night college football games, that Ron Franklin will pair with Kirk Herbstreit or another analyst to call those games. Remember that Mike Patrick was tapped to do the premiere Saturday night college games alongside Paul Maguire that Ron Franklin used to do.

I don't think it will be a consistant team on Thursdays. ESPN nad ABC have fully integrated their college football units. According to Dr. Jerry Punch on a local sports talk show, that means that all of the ESPN and ABC announcers will move between networks and assignments, except for Keith Jackson, who will still do only games in California.

Games on the networks will also feature the same graphic packages.

It is also worth noting that back when ESPN only had the second half of the NFL season, Mike Patrick and Joe Theismann did the Thursday night college game. Later, the best college announcing team of all time, Franklin, Gottfried and Karsten did the Thursday and Saturday Night games. The Tirico/Corso/Herbstreit team took over in 98 or 99.

Re: Thursday night college football

I certainly hope Mr Patrick recieved a kiss during or after the screw job he got from ESPN.

For the record: Patrick is better than Mike Tirico when it comes to NFL play by play. Tirico is ok at the college level...hes been the networks plug in guy...hoops, golf, football...but Patrick has been the point man for NFL footbal since its inception on ESPN.

Its one thing to shove Patrick out of the way for Al Michaels....its another thing totally to bring in a rookie...yes, Tirico has less than one half of one season of NFL games under his belt....to replace Patrick.

And Tony Kornheiser? Pathetic. He will last one, maybe two seasons before either becoming bored with the concept, or being shoved aside because the audience will find their local Westwood One Radio station to listen to....

Pathetic.

Okay, you lost me when you said the following:

B.O.A.T? Franklin is good, and so was the late Adrian Karsten. But that southern-fried slow talker named Mike Gottried should be nowhere near a college football telecast again. <P ID="signature">______________
