It's official: 102.7 is going "Wild" in AC

I worry you guys are going to be disappointed if you're expecting 102.7 to be pure dance.

I think that, at least at first, this station will sound more like 99.3 than Long Island's Party 105.  I'm sure there will be a dance component (popular stuff like Guetta, La Roux, and Deadmau5), but they would be crazy to start out as deep into dance as Party is.  South Jersey hasn't had this sort of music on the radio in almost 10 years.  I think they'll sign on as mostly rhythmic pop.

That's why I gave a "heads up" warning Slinky.

I remember all of the "outrage" that had happened when Party FM was on 87.7 in New York City because it had replaced Pulse 87, a station that had a "cult" following but no money due to financial matters with the company involved. I DO NOT want this to happen again which is why I've posted the way I did towards certain people that I see in here that WERE critical on Party FM and then all of a sudden did an "about face" when Party left 87.7.

Whatever the format is, I will stand FULLY behind the station.  Besides, a lot more rhythmic artists are doing dance remixes of tracks.  I have NO problem with that.  If that's going to help with that "big picture" then we must stand behind it :).  This "elitist" attitude must stop now because that is self-defeatist.

That's all I'm saying :)

Congratulations to John Carraciolo and Vic Latino for making this happen :)

I believe South Jersey is just happy that there's something on the dial than nothing.  Even the former Hot 106.3, as deep as they were with dance at the time with Drunkenmunky, Oscar G, Iio, Ian Van Dahl, they still weren't pure dance.  You would hear a decent amount of classic dance hits from the 90's, pop, and hip-hop was also thrown in the mix.  The difference with the Pulse/Party situation was Party came in hours after Pulse signed off, which lead people to believe Party was the blame for Pulse leaving the airwaves, and many expected Party to be exactly how Pulse was.  As to here, the last time we had a CHR/Dance station was in 2002/03.  Some people don't believe The Buzz was a "KTU" style station circa. 1999-2001 prior to the tweak to hip-hop, and some didn't even know Hot 106.3 existed.  I'm expecting a very strong positive side for the new Wild.  (minus the regular haterade being passed around by the disgruntled ones.)

I do expect that there will be "hate" coming from the rock fans disappointed with 102.7's format change. I would not be surprised if they organize a protest in Atlantic City against the new Wild 102.7. That "hate" is completely understandable. There were protests for G-Rock's flip, and for K-Rock's flip, and for Y100's flip years ago.

When Pulse 87 went bankrupt, Party 87 stunted with all dance music all weekend, leading us to believe it would keep the pure dance format. And on Monday, 87.7 played mostly hip hop, which was a shock to me and most of the Pulse audience used to the 80% dance on Pulse.

In this case, Wild 102.7 is not replacing a dance station, it's brand new. Z88.9 still exists for the people who want more pure dance. The only hate will be coming from the rock fans.

Your kind continues to shove this urbanic fluff on the listener

Hold on....YOUR KIND???

Now what the heck does "your kind" insinuate? Because I am one of "your kind" as you so stated.

I understand you are ticked off that you no longer have your format. If the marketplace can support a station with your format, be sure another company would hop on it. But to go about and say "your kind" is VERY dangerous. I'm not trying to get a "TIO" (Take It Outside) out of this. But you better be VERY careful on where you go with that type of statement.

Just saying.....

So is Scott out of a job or is he doing something else with the company?

Ok arm chair PD's, tell me why turning JSE into a CHR station, even with the transmitter relocation is a good idea without making 103.7 The Shark active rock? Now ZXL definitly stays a strong number 1 down here. Very stupid if you ask me and I of course know everything.

your kind = simple means a typical rock hater and a rap/hip hop/dance/rhythmic/soul/blues/reggae lover, forget anyone elses taste as long as you saturate the dial with your likes....simple as that.. so dont take it out of context and try and play any race card or anything like that....I was just making a statement...nothing to do with race or ethnic ancestory as you all try and imply and get nuts about...

But if this was 1976, it would be the other way around. ::)

You "went there" with that, so if it's about rock haters versus rock fans it's one thing except for the fact that I thought we were PAST 1979. Even Steve Dahl, the creator of the "Disco Demolition Derby" apologized to Harry Casey (as in the "KC" of KC And The Sunshine Band) about this. But then with THIS reply you went with the last statement about us implying that everything like this is racist! For that matter, I don't hate rock. I don't hate ANY music nor was I looking for a racist slant out of this except for what I thought you "put out there". I prefer dance but music is an expression that should be admired by everyone regardless of what genre. Heck, there are times I blast Mozart on a classical station because the music sounds THAT good to me.

Back to point....if you had clarified yourself at the VERY beginning with "your kind, those that like dance/hip-hop/etc.,it would not have stirred a deep reaction. But you "went there" without any clarifications in reference to Vic Latino, to which ANYONE who would have read (and re-read) that post would have thought the same thing I did, that you were being RACIST to him (a Puerto Rican just as I am). If you didn't "go there" like that, I would not have responded as such.

You can hate dance, you can hate hip-hop, you can wish I was dead for that matter and my response would be to "stand in line". Just make sure that if you're going to post your anger on something, to be VERY careful because when you "cross the line" with cultural backgrounds, you will stir anger. You probably are NOT racist. All I'm saying here is "be careful".

I do hope down the road, your format comes back on the radio in your region. If you have a huge audience down there that wants it, the marketplace will fill that void. Besides, radio is a business....don't take it personally. It's about money. Take this from a fan who dealt with the loss of 4 dance stations in New York City.

Thank you,

I might be 10 years since Atlantic City has had a dance station but there have been two non-coms that were and have been dance since then. Speaking as the guy that ran both of them, I can tell you South Jersey will embrace this station. If you look just at this weekend along in Atlantic City, it is offering a ton of dance music related parties. Each casino has a nightclub or beach bar and whats playing almost all of them? Dance music. Tonight at the Pool you have Z889 and Remix Top 30 DJ Mike Rizzo, Casbah has Deadmau5, Chris Willis and Denny Tennaglia this weekend. That is just the tip of the ice burg.

I think Vic is going to unleash Wild the way it should be right from the start. Is it going to be a purists view point on what a dance station should sound like? Absolutely not. That method wont work. I think you are going to hear what Q102 used to sound like when it was the Beat of Philadelphia.

Im really excited to see the potential of this station and look forward in working together in a way to bring dance music back to South Jersey. Its just funny to see the use of Wild because when I left WDBK we were Wild 91.

Amen Brett!

I'm looking forward to hearing this station. Heck, I may even travel down tonight to A.C. just to hear it; I have to be in West Long Branch anyway so it's only an hour and change away? :)

I've already expressed my thanks to Vic and John....so in that sense, good luck and most importantly....

SUPPORT THE STATION!!!! :)

You know I will embrace this station if I plan to drive an hour and a half to AC just to hear 102.7 go Wild.

... the new calls for Wild 102.7 will be WWAC, replacing WJSE.

WWAC used to be the call letters of Channel 53 in Atlantic City, which is now cable-only WMCN.

Flipping at 9:55 PM? How lame is that? Couldn't they extend the Grucci fireworks display another 32 minutes so the station could do the predictable and flip at 10:27 PM?

The stream is simulcasting 98.3. Is 102.7 doing that as well? Was there anything special for the changeover?

Edit: Scratch that... I thought I heard them mention 98.3 but Kool has something different on their stream. I guess this live broadcast is 102.7 only.

The fireworks show isn't run by Atlantic Broadcasting or they might have tried that.

The stream for tonights switch will be available on www.wild1027.com.

102.7 is currently simulcasting WMGM 103.7 over the air. I'm down in Atlantic City now, I can tell that 102.7's signal has been boosted since I could pick it up at exit 38 of the AC Expressway, and I could also pick it up inside the Bally's parking garage, splattering on to 102.5 and 102.9.
