It's official! 94.9 The Bull WUBL-FM

"Southern fried rock"? you mean like Molly hatchet, Lynard Skynard, Allman bros, and various other cross burning, [EDIT]yeah sounds like "fun"

::)

Oh please, it is the south.. Cross Burning? Look the south does have regional rock music. Just like the North has Bruce Springsteen. I forgot some are so damn PC on here! And Spanish is not a format! Its a Language, does that make country Regional Agricultural Redneck Music? Or man were really workin hard on the farm music? Good lord, its just music.
Besides A total format could not be formed on just this type of Rock. I do agree that Eagle needs to flip to Classic Rock,
and play more than 96 did, if the bull is a true reality who needs THREE Country Stations? I dont think that Atlanta needs Three country stations, Just like we dont need a total of 16 Hispanic Stations, no matter what the true name of the format may be.

I'd have to disagree.

Consider this: How narrow is the playlist at the River? Whether that's my cup of tea or not, it's definitely a format.

Southern Rock classics + currents that are harder edged country (the most obvious line of succession from Southern rock roots) = enough of a library by today's standards.

Whether it'll fly or not is a completely different question. I'm just saying there's enough material to supply a format.

Anyone think that B98.5 will pickup Delilah and Casey Kasem if 94.9 flips to country??? I know that when I asked Cox-owned 95-5 the Beat's station manager back in 1999 if they would play AT40 with Casey Kasem, they said absolutely no. Anyone want to shed some light on this?

Delilah is syndicated by Clear Channel, so pulling the plug on her in Atlanta is probably not a huge deal.

I also have to disagree with those saying the format switch at this point doesn't make sense. While I personally don't like it, from their standpoint I think it makes perfect sense. They know this week is their highest ratings week of the year because of the Christmas music. They are also a pathetically cheap company when it comes to promotion (evidenced by the quality of their branding... forgive the pun), so if they want to get the word out about the new format to the audience, this week is the absolute best time they could do it. As someone pointed out, their numbers tank on December 26th, so you have to "make hay while the sun shines," and they knew this was going to happen for a long time, so it's not like they didn't like approach advertisers with this scenerio in the first place.

Keeping my fingers crossed for Sounds of Faith.

Anybody remember the "Peach Party Saturday Night" with "Howard Hewes"? Fun times.

Does Cox have Delilah on any of there stations. Could this mean that 99.7 could go back to AC because Cumulus cant be happy with X's performance.

WWRM Tampa, WFLC Miami, and WEZN Hartford

Enough with the 99x flipping ccomments. Does anyone really think they are going to blow it up 3 months into their new morning show and one month after their prime competitor made a format tweak. I have to think they are solid all the way through 2007. From there the ratings will dictates what happens next.

Man I loved that show! I wonder what happened to him. I used to call in all the time. What i really liked is he played all sorts of stuff. He even played Spike Jones if I wanted to hear that and I blame my obsession with Spike Jones (well maybe obsession is too strong a word) with Spike on Howard.

It's so funny how the memories start coming back when I think about listening to Peach/Lite for so many years.

Now that I think about it It's no small wonder that the format at 94.9 stayed as it was for so long. it's the only radio station my grandmother ever listened to ever. I am quite sure the demographics have become a nightmare because soft rock can only go so far. If I would have had a guess at which format would have been flipped first between 96 Rock and Peach/Lite I would have bet the farm on Lite. Rock in 30 years keeps changing and adapting on itself, Soft rock and Easy Listening has and does stay the same.

My guess is that because he's in his 70s, Casey wouldn't be able to relate to the audience on the Beat. Had Ryan Seacrest hosted AT40 back then, maybe they would've been more willing to jump on it, but then again, Star probably would've gotten it since Ryan was a former Star jock.

Thanks for the kind words. I was fortunate enough to produce that show for pretty much its entire run at Peach, and if it was half as fun to listen to as it was to work on, then I hope there are more out there with fond memories too, whether they remember them or not.

Howard still lives in Atlanta. He has had a couple different syndicated talk shows in the past, but I don't think he's doing that now either.

Well maybe 104.7 will pick it up?

They'd have to do it under a different name. Sounds of Faith is copyrighted. Maybe Sounds of Praise or something like that, but picking something similar and picking up the Alan Kunkel name would seem like a slam dunk for them.

I don't know about anyone else, but I haven't heard 94.9 The Bull play anything by Shania - the best-selling female Country artist of all time. That proves Clear Channel has no idea how to program a successful radio station.

My guess is, the web guy at CC got sloppy and forgot to hide the site. I've talked to several people at CC who never saw anything official about the change Friday afternoon... If I were Randy & Spiff or Delilah, I wouldn't be too happy about finding out this way.
It doesn't seem likely they'd stop the Xmas music before the 25th. Now that the bull is out of the barn, maybe someone at CC will attempt some damage control before Monday.
More bad news for Delilah: She's also losing her Raleigh affiliate (any coincidence that it's also a CC station?): Sunny 93.9 is Raleigh is slated to flip after Christmas...

I know it says peach949 in the link and address for the site but it is the site for 96.7 lite fm same logo as 94.9 lite fm just different numbers if you look. I have not listened to it much as I just found it about half hour ago but I do plan to listen and see if it's the same s far as DJs or not I see it's the same in music.

Do you isten to her? I don't. Not "slamming" those who do, it's just not my cup of tea. However i DO know who she is (remember I'm a listener not an insider) which is more than I can say about many of the names I see bandied about here. She obviously has a "following" all she needs is some stations with balls and a good sales staff to sell her show to advertisers........... same as any other syndicated DJ. Heck, I hope ALL the ratings plummet. It will make the pickings better.........
