It's official at KFYI

As CHILL pointed out, KFYI has put an end to speculation about whether Crummey will indeed be the new PMD host, and the future of the Dingleberry Twins' JRN show. http://kfyi.com/newpages/programming/index.html indicates that Crummey's curious remarks about his "new shift" are true, and that L&H are off-air for awhile longer, until Jones rounds up stations.

Speaking of which, they'll probably get a better boost than we expect... Jones' Cox division, which owns WSB/Atlanta, runs refeeds from 10pm-5am most weeknights. They already clear the majority of JRN programming (Boortz, Howard) and could perhaps add a DBed L&H overnights.

Good! Now I can listen to KFYI during my drive home again.

What station in Phoenix would take them? KTAR is full, KXXT is too liberal, and I don't think KKNT has any non-Salem hosts, although L&H would fit right in there.

That leaves those two fine institutions of Phoenix broadcasting, KFNX and KXAM.

Depending on what time slot the Twins get from Jones Net.. couldn't KFYI run them maybe in the evening? Any word on if the show will air during pm drive on the east coast or if they are touting them for pm drive on the west/nights for east coast.

I gotta say I enjoy the Female hosts at night though on KFYI. I may not totally agree with their thoughts but its nice to have some balance on the radio. Isn't that what the Fox news channel slogan is fair and balanced.

Amen to that! Its good to have someone on the air at that time that is listenable.

Liddy and Hill were brainless, TAR is playing with Grant Woods, whom I'd rather hear pigs being executed live on the air than, and the unbelievably unfunny Jeffry OBrien on 1310.

KFYI could have plugged in any number of things 7-10 when Goyette exited. We even discussed here the likelihood of Hendrie moving over from Xtra. The Chick Boss is interested in keeping live, local issues talk on at night.

Go for Michael Graham. Fits the format, and although it's a bit of a step down for him, a one-hour internet show isn't exactly big time. He's already "working for" big sister station KFI.

Other candidates could include Steve Malzberg, who has done a lot of evening fill-in recently on stations like WBT. It would seem to me that the climate and growing major market status of Phoenix, along with KFYI's ownership and market position would allow them to grab practically anyone they want. Take advantage of those factors.

As to the two "other" stations you mentioned, Keith, KFNX is now stunting overnights and KXAM has 3-5am unfilled. You just never know!

Good Riddance Frick & Frack!

Since their pictures and pages are off KFYI's website, L&H as we know it are history. I don't think that the CB wants to put another syndicated show on weekdays and is committed to having a live nighttime show. I know that ratings are the ultimate driver.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a L&H weekend highlight show like Reagan and Snow have.

You're incorrect about Jones and Cox

Jones Radio Networks does not own Cox Radio.

There is no Cox division of Jones, and there is no Jones division of Cox. is a publicly traded division of Cox Enterprises.

WSB/Atlanta is the flagship of Cox Radio, who is headquartered in the same building.

Jones does do ad sales for syndicated shows that originate on Cox stations, but there is no common ownership.
______________

Re: You're incorrect about Jones and Cox

Yes, you are correct; what I should have said is that there is a very close relationship in that Jones Radio Networks promotes Boortz, Clark Howard, etc. on its website and in promo materials, and Cox syndicates these shows. To the common eye, it would seem that both networks syndicated these shows.

Good points all, except the "climate" factor you cite...given the fact that KFYI'S PM drive host is 300+ miles away from the market. Whoever they get could logistically do the show from just about anywhere.

For all I know, Joe Adams could in fact be a sophisticated text-to-voice computer buried deep beneath San Antonio.
