The release is out. Tony Bruno will return to Philly radio as the 9am to noon host on 950 am on Oct. 3rd.

For those who don't think this matters because it's "only a sports station", Phila. is one of the few major cities in America that has had only 1 sports station. Bad Sports towns like LA have 4! Why? Because you can sell the demo without big ratings.
The first smart move by WPEN in a long, long time. Getting Bruno's show is only going to make things a lot less comfortable for WIP.

I am glad that Bruno fans will be able to hear their guy again. But if you really think that Tony doing national stuff on Sporting News Radio is going to cause Cataldi, Morganti, Gargano and Missanelli to lose a moment's sleep, I would like to buy whatever you are smoking.
 
you are clueless if you think Tony will put a dent in WIP....I love the guy and will listen to him every second he is on...but I am a minority..a big minority....Philly doesn't give a crap about national sportsradio....you are so far off on this one its not even funny....I will listen to angelo til 9 and then go back and forth with he and tony for the 9-10 hour actually

Agreed.

I mean, I like Tony Bruno's show. He was the only Fox Sports Radio host worth a plug nickel, and I stopped listening to our local FSR affiliate when he left. (Not long after, the station flipped to liberal talk...the only thing drawing more than flies on the frequency as a sports talker was Jim Rome, who's heard on WKNR/850 Cleveland.)

And WPEN made an obvious, and smart, move by picking up his Sporting News Radio show. One would have to examine the heads of WPEN's management if they did not do so.

But...WIP still owns the sports radio market in Philly, and Bruno's show in middays on WPEN won't change that. Heck, if Bruno actually left SNR for a WPEN local drive time show, it'd still be an uphill battle for both him and the station, despite his "name" in the market.

Bruno will do damage because they will sell his show with or without ratings.

The biggest problem WPEN will have is that Bruno isn't on in am drive on the east coast. I think if he was up against Cataldi and Co..he would get ratings because that show is very limited and has no competition. Bruno's national stuff has nothing to do with any lack of appeal. He does a fun radio show and has guests and phone calls and energy that WIP has been lacking. People in Philly don't know any better and when they hear Bruno and his contacts and more Philly guests on his show in 1 week than WIP has had on in a decade, they'll know what great sports talk is about.
You are all sucked in by WIP dominance. WIP that way due to lack of competition, not because they are great.
Philly has only 1 choice..other cities with little sports interest have 3 or more sports stations competiting. Wake up and smell reality!
The show that will really bomb in Philly is ROME. Who's gonna listen to that crap after Bruno is off at noon?
