Its Official: Randy and Spiff Mornings on 106.7

With True Oldies bombing out in D.C., Providence and elsewhere, I wonder if Randy & Spiff in the morning is the next step toward a new format on 106.7... does Joe Scarborough's radio show air in the ATL yet?

In my non - opinion... opinion... I wish them the best of luck ;)

Well, True Oldies is finally getting respectable numbers in the ATL. Methinks their success is due to a deeper playlist, going deep into the 1970s (which Fox 97 and Cool 105.7 never did), and breaking the 80s oldies taboo.

I have an opinion but I'm a skeered to post it - someone might hit me!

Lessee... Let's check the record (Please correct it if I've missed something.):

R&S are on Fox 97 ... Fox 97 changes to Urban.
R&S move to Magic 105.7 ... Magic 105.7 changes to Spanish.
R&S move to Lite 94.9 ... Lite 94.9 changes to The Bull.
R&S move to Newsradio640 ... Newsradio640 drops news (after a "layoff' and s "delayed layoff") and changes to syndacated talk.

106.7 doesn't need to "bomb" to change its format. Just hire Ran.... ..
Oh... wait..

But, that's what you meant, right? :)

I Hope they do good! As for the format bombing each market is different. There is a top 25 market where an AOR is #1 WDVE Pittsburg. Being in the South you would think the #1 Country would be stronger in Atlanta but look at Cincinnati’s #2 WUBE or the Dallas Market. The tight music list oldies format has not worked in Atlanta, but Scott’s Shannon’s stuff is working better than half of stations in Atlanta. The R & S show kept Fox 97 from dying for a couple of years. 106.7 will skew older but I would rather try to sell R & S than TRG’s! The CC stations don’t count! Check out “and you know who else bashes Clear Channel” on this board before someone at CC makes the Board Editor shut it down.

I agree it must be tough selling TRG ranked 3rd in some money demos vs. R & S voted mostly likely to listen to while recovering from a stroke.

So Tibbs...using that logic:

Is it JJ Jackson's fault that CC changed the format on Mix?
Is it's Aly Young's fault that CC changed the format on Buzz?
Is it Steve Goss's fault that CC changed the format on Lite?
You see my point.
In the last year of Fox we were in a meeting and they told us that we were making a nice profit for the company, but when the decision is made that something else might work better, we'll change format. That day came...and they changed to an R&B station...that failed.
When we went to Cool we had the biggest endorsement billing in our 13 years in the format. They told us at CC that we were the only station in the group operating in the black. They changed format...and went Spanish...look at the ratings.
When they changed format on Lite they told us that "the format on that frequency had run it's course". Yet B98 took the ball, ran with it, and with no competition has had huge success. When I walked into the building CC told us that firing the Kimmer would mean losing 1 million dollars in endorsement money. Yet they did it anyway. His fault?
Air personalities like Rhubarb, Tom Hughs, the ones mentioned above, and so many others go in everyday and give it their all (and much more) to be successful. They become victims of some of the harsh realities of this business. So they move on, find the next opportunity...and do it all over again. I find it amazing that some of the people on the board would crash on that.

He could have meant hiring Randall Bloomquist, which is a good enough reason to run away from True Oldies. Just when you think a radio station wouldn't hire a total moron, here comes Randall Bloomquist.

I don't mind facing up to my posts but you are calling me out on a post I did not write. The post you are commenting on was not my post but Trusty's post. My post was a smart aleck comment responding to somebody implying it is a tougher job selling advertising for TRG vs. R & S. I find that hard to believe regardless of content I was looking at it from a ratngs and demos standpoint and where they stand in some of the more desirable demos to sell.

Randy, welcome to the board, where you will find a healthy dose of sarcasm mixed with some attempts at humor, but never any attempts at offending anyone personally - especially a team for whom we all have the highest respect.

So, please, step back and think: wouldn't your "track record" of pure coincidences be a like a bit that you and Spiff would do yourselves - like picking up the conversation of Christmas plans that you guys resumed on Cool 105.7 after abruptly leaving Fox 97 six months earlier? The "humor" here is in the "pure coincidences" - not anybody's "fault".

Rejoice. You're out of Clear Channel now. You don't have to look over your shoulder. We've both done the corporate scene, and we know how much it can zap our energy and creativity with the needless stresses and fault-finding it produces.

Now, that's history. I'll be listening on opening day, just like I have all these years. And I pray that when Scott Shannon hears you are back together, he won't change the format!
;)

Actually, I should take partial blame for more or less provoking Trusty to write that post which Tibbs (and now yourself, Randy) have replied to. I was only looking at it from the format angle, not personality-wise. Welcome to the board, Randy!

True Oldies 106.7-WYAY is doing great in Atlanta! Randy and Spiff will help them to grow even more. Having Freddie live in the afternoon will also help. The large 5,000 plus song Oldie playlist really helps too....
