It's Official...Seeen and Kent at 5pm

I just saw a commercial on KPHO that says "Seeeen joins Kent Dana on the anchor desk at 5pm starting Monday". We'll see if this lifts KPHO out of 5th place at 5pm!!

Who is being replaced on that newscast?
I hear no one is being replaced. Just a revamp of the 5pm.
It's a typical tweak that Meredith is known for when the numbers don't add up.
Who's to say it won't work?
Viewers can be finicky.

As for the previous poster who calls Sean "seeen", take that to TVSpy or MediaLine.
Please state an argument, with legit names, and leave the name calling to other TV discussion groups, FTV comes to mind.
We know where you stand on Sean (you do post in other forums).
Give it a rest.
I don't think I'm asking a lot.

Tweaking is good, but I still think a significant part of KPHO's evening problems can be spelled C-O-U-R-I-C. Her last place CBS Evening News numbers are also dragging down a number of the local CBS affiliates in the 5 and 6 pm slots.

What comes to my mind is the phrase "lighten up, Francis." ;D

We've always taken potshots at local media types--and media outlets--and I don't
think we'll stop now. Have you "seeeeeen" ;) the PHX radio board recently?

Please tell us (no, not "tell us, Bellis") why "Seeeeeen" should get a pass on this,
where McBland, Aunt Carlos, the EVIL-from-El Lay Crummey, the Nearly Bald One,
TMISU, Snooze 92/3 KT'R-FM, KOOL 94.5 songs over and over, Mc12, The Place
With More Fluff, The Arizona Socialist Republic, and the rest--don't.

Sorry that you are offended! But I am going to keep calling them like I see them. The Phoenix radio board is downright malicious. This is pretty vanilla and honestly I certainly didn't start the "Seeeen" thing. I will admit that Seeeen is a pretty good anchor (except he has an annoying head tilt thing going on). I really like the Sean and Christina Wofford(sp?) pairing on Sunday evenings. In fact, KPHO should make Diana the am and noon anchor with Chambo (oops!), promote Christina to weekday evenings, and put Catherine on the weekends.

Furthermore, the commercial gave the impression that it was going to be Kent and Sean (rather than Kent and Diana). If so, that would mean that Diana is being replaced.

Wow! I had to read this, walk away for a few hours, re-read it, then respond. I mostly use "Seeeeen" with 5 e's. I've known a lot of male/female Seans and Shawns but never met someone who pronounces it that way. So I consider it to be a play on his name. I've never written anything negative about him, though I wondered about him coming back to Phoenix. I think it was a smart business move.

If your peeved about this, I'm glad that McLaughlin no longer appears on the radio because this is Candyland compared to the Phoenix Radio board.

He might yet again. In the 4:15-4:30 quarter hour (gotta keep that AQH maintenance),
at about the same time that "El Lay's own" Crummey is doing his bit with channel 10's
Hookster on 55/FYI, Ded and Heidi on Snooze 92/3 KT'R-FM toss to an obviously canned
promo with Kent plugging what (breaking and non-breaking) news stories channel 5 is
"working on" for Jive At Five.

It "seeeeeems" only natural that, to promote his promotion, "Seeeeeen" may alternate
with Kent on these.

I've heard those segments. Kent could have done it 5 hours ago! So who do you think will appear on radio live first: Kent on KT'R or Royal Norman on KFYI? ???

So I caught most of the program. Not bad so far. Seeeeen also did the weather. I turned the channel around 5:30. When I turned back, Diana Sullivan was also there. I wasn't sure if McLaughlin was hosting the entire hour or just the 5 half-hour.

Kent and Seeen anchored the 5pm half-hour today (Seeen did the weather). At about 5:27pm, Diana joined them on the set and told us what was coming up at 5:30pm. At 5:30pm, Kent and Diana anchored the news.

And not just news and weather, he was also their trafficmeister. I guess
Deputy Dan was tied up, what with Snooze 92/3 KT'R, 98/7 Squaw Peak,
and "traffic in the loop on the sixes on Sports Siberia 860." ;)

They seeeeeemed a bit awkward standing on either side of the giant monitor.
Is that a live prop behind them or is it a chroma key? At least once there
appeared to be--and I've forgotten the correct term--the outline of a key
around them.

"CBS 5 news at five..the place to be Seeeeeen and heard!"

Day 2:

So Kent and Seeeeen stand during the entire program. Once Diana and Catherine co-host, Dana sits. I like it so far.

Heard Seeeeen do the promo today. He didn't start or end with his name, but Heidi said "Thanks Sean."

I stand corrected.
I don't hang at the radio boards as often as the TV boards.
I should. I did time in radio.
Does R&R still carry much clout?

Watching the revamped 5pm with Sean and Kent, the air is clearing and I see why he is referred to as Seeen.
To be fair, I doubted Mark Curtis and his news reading abilities. Move from sports to telling me of a major situation in Glendale?
I always thought that KPNX powers were simply cheap and didn't care to do a nationwide search for Kent's replacement.
Perhaps this might be a new avenue to replacing established talent.
Above for KPNX only.

Please accept my heartfelt apologies for doubting the Seeen angle.
I can admit when I'm wrong.

As for the tweaking, we'll see in May if it has a chance of working.

Apology accepted! Actually, I am also beginning to change my mind about Seeen. He is great paired with Christina Wofford on Sunday pm's. I actually like him better as a news anchor, rather than the chief met. :D

I was surprised to see Wofford and him on Sunday. I thought he might drop Sundays to concentrate on weekdays only now that he has the 5 p.m. slot.
