Checking on the FCC website WCTD-LP (96.9 Ashaway)Chris Dipaola's little station is now officially
WBLQ-LP.
88.1 WBLQ (Westerly) still holds the WBLQ-FM calls.
I just thought I'd start a new thread.
Edited by kenwood on 12/08/05 05:42 AM.

So much for the one owner per LPFM rule.
I guess that was shot out the door...

From what I've read online WCTD-LP (now WBLQ-LP) is owned by a group head by a member of Chris Dipaola's family not Chris Dipaola himslef.

There is enough evidence to show that the two are in fact co-owned regardless of how the application was filed, misspellings and technical errors in all.

Then go ahead and file a complaint with the FCC. :)

I don't like what Dipaola's doing either - it certainly violates the spirit of the LPFM rules. HOWEVER, at the same time I have to admit that at least it is a truly local owner who's running the station, as opposing to some satellator/Godcaster (like far too many of the LPFM's).

I mean the only reason I'd want to see Dipaola NOT have it is just so I could run it myself...and only then because, hey, owning your own station is cool. I don't have a more valid reason than that. :)
Edited by webcastboy on 12/09/05 03:46 PM.

Whats the second LPFM? I don't think 88.1 is considered one, 96.9 is.

Nope, I don't feel the need to. While I think there is some legality issues with the whole situation, I can't blame him for the same love of radio as the rest. I just wish he was more on the mark, legally. Other than that, I have no problems with what he is doing there to serve an under-served area in radio.

Right, 88.1 is a full power station, 96.9 is the LPFM.
An owner of an LPFM can not have legal ties to or a vested interest in another station, LPFM or full power.
