It's possible Howard Stern may come back to Providence

http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/63508.htm In a stunning bit of News, Howard Stern has been offered a deal to return to terrestrial Radio and keep his Satellite show on Sirius at the same time. It's been speculated in the press that Citadel Broadcasting could possibly be the company that has made the offer. If this is the case, how do you feel about Stern's return...... and what Providence station do you think he would land on? I would love to see him on Pro-Fm this time around. It would rejuvenate the whole station at a time when I feel that they could really use it. John

No PRO FM can't break the tradition of hacks who are too old for the format.Try The Score instead.Who the hell wakes up to all sports anyway? It's a good thing Arby doesn't measure IQ too or they'd be hurting even more when it comes to listener profiles.

If indeed the Citadel rumor is true, then this might be what saves the Score. Stern is not a good fit on any other Citadel Providence stations - PRO-FM's CHR format does not fit the bill; neither does WPRO AM's news/conservative talk format; finally, I doubt he would return to Hot 106 with Hot hosting a syndicated show as it is.

Mel Karmazian the CEO of Sirius said to investors today that he had not heard of any offers from terrestrial radio to bring Howard back to the traditional radio. Mel also re-assured investors that it is too early in Howards tenure at Sirius to even entertain such an offer. So I'm wondering if Howard is making this up in response to Opie and Anthony's deal or if Mel is just trying to put out the fire with investors.

I do tend to believe Stern when he says the offer was made. I also believe that Mel is just trying to keep everything quiet right now. It's been done in the past. Opie and Anthony get Howard enraged and then Stern accidently starts letting things slip out that he probably shouldn't. Early rumor is that WPLJ New York will start airing Stern if Howard accepts Citadels offer. PLJ is pretty much the same format as PRO-FM. So it appears that Howard's show very well may start airing on Top 40 stations across the country if Citadel has it's way. Then again... anything is possible. This is such an early stage of the Game that None of this may even happen. The reality of the situation is that Citadel made Stern an offer. That is the only thing that has happened so far. Everything just may stop right there. However I do feel that it's in the Best interest of Sirius Radio to try and recoup some of it's losses by entering into a Deal with Citadel. Sirius Stock is just not doing very well right now. It's Down 50 percent from it's High. Sirius is years away from making a profit and many Investors are questioning the whole situation. That's not good for anyone involved. Something may have to be done sooner rather than later.John

John: you mentioned that WPLJ may air Howard if he accepts Citadel's offer. My question is...what does WPLJ have to do with Citadel? Citadel doesn't own WPLJ...ABC does.

Citadel has merged with ABC/Disney. Therefore..... Citadel and ABC/Disney Radio have become one. Here... Read this for a better explanationhttp://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=171902

If Howard Stern went back to land-based radio, why would all of those people who pay for satellite just to listen to Stern continue to PAY for satellite when they can listen to Stern, once again, for free?

I was also thinking of the censorship angle. Assuming he would do the same show on Satellite radio it would have to be a different show than he's doing now in order for it to be broadcast on terrestrial radio. I really haven't paid much attention to how much his show differs but I'm sure it does.

John: thanks for reminding me of the Citadel/ABC merger. I already knew about it, but simply forgot about it when responding to your earlier post. Thanks again for the reminder and the link to the FMQB article.
