It's quite amazing how far Harold Swidler has come !

It's truly fascinating how far Swidler has come. Back in the 70s, he nearly lost his license over the 93.5 application battle, having been declared "unfit to be a broadcaster". Ironically, it was 30 years ago this month that the FCC declared that Harold Swidler had suffered enough and could keep the WIOO license.

That old license challenge grew out of the old "comparative applicant" licensing process that the FCC eliminated years ago. Harold has always been a good licensee who has, over the years, served the area well with local news and community information. He (and his son Eric) are also very good people to work for. I Never have to live through going to work in the morning and wondering whether I'll still have a job by the end of the day. In today's world of radio, that is priceless. They plan to keep Red 102's crew in place and continue with the success they have been enjoying. All are looking forward to coming aboard with us.

Check this out from the October 30, 1972 issue of Broadcasting Magazine:

in response to petition by Cumberland Broadcasting
Co., enlarged hearing issues to determine
whether Harold Swidler and/or ,WIOO Inc. made

and whether Swidler and/or WIOO possesses
basic or comparative qualifications to be
commission licensee. Proceeding involves mutually
exclusive applications of Cumberland, WIOO, and
Hilton, McGowan and Hilton for new FM at
Carlisle (Docs. 19468, 19469, 19471). Action Oct.
16.
