Plus stores sell tons of shovels. You'd think everyone in the Northeast would have a shovel by now!

You know, i have never understoof why there is a shovel run before every snowstorm. I can maybe understand the first snowstorm. Alot of new people may have moved in, or losts there old shovels. However when its the 10th snowstorm of the season, why are there still a run on shovels? Do people just throw them out after each storm? Am I the only one who keeps mine stored away during the summer? Where were these people during the previous 9 storms?

Great Post

I guess they got this storm close to being right but the first three were total busts in terms of accuracy. They huff and puff at 5pm to panic everyone then change it at 11 so the next day they can say "Oh we called it!!!!" Part of it is the listeners/viewers fault, they tune in to whoever has the most hyped up forecast. Last week they went to bed calling for 4-8 inches. I was outside shoveling slush in the rain at work. Then some guy comes in as I was toweling off and says how good the forecast was. I nearly beat him to death. The sun came out 10 minutes later but he was gone. I hope he drove into a tree from the sun glare on the wet streets.

Yeah, those first few storms have been busts, but to be fair it is very diffcult to predict a coastal storm, when the ocean is still warm. So many things can go wrong, such as the storm going out to sea futher, which means little snow, hugs the coast which means alot of snow, or tracks a bit inland, which means it brings in wamrer temps, thus less snow, more mix.

Yes yes, I agree. I didn't meant to give the wrong impression. Some of them really do try hard and are very watchable.

My beef is when they TOTALLY blow it then come on the next day and go "Well, we called it right." Then intentionally hype it for ratings, then make minor corrections, then say how right they were all along. That's bogus. I wish I could make that kind of money and be so wrong all the time ... intentionally or unintentionally.

When they have to send camera crews 2 hours away to look for snowflakes just for the evening news something is loony. Oh and I love how Hurricane Schwartz (seems like a really good guy) was outside claiming to see snow when the radar loop on weather.com showed it miles away. Here he is with a High Def camera, 50 bazillion watts of light on him and we can't see it but HE can. OMG, that takes such amazing skillz!

Where do I apply?<P ID="signature">______________

Well, said. I am a major weather buff and spend hours tracking every storm. They are difficult but a TRUE meteorologist ADMITS when and why they were wrong in my opinion. Maybe its just me, but if a Meteorologist admits they were wrong, im more likely to think they learned something and will improve. Then again, I don't envy anyone who has to make a public forecast in the winter. Especially in our area, its one of the toughest areas.

Anyone notice Hurricane already HONKING away about the "warm-up" coming late week? Then again his winter outlook could be in serious trouble. He called for December to be +1* abover average. I dont think we are going to reach anything above average for the month even if we end it more seasonal. But as a result his tone this whole winter in my opinion has been skewed to the warm side.
