It's the big format flip holiday weekend!

As I stated on another thread, despite there being technically two CHRs in the market, I really believe The Fan should flip to the AMP or NOW format. This would actually give KISS a good swift kick. Now everyone then always says "CBS already tried top 40 in this market and it didn't work". Keep in mind that was also before the PPM and new CHR strategy they now have in place. We shall see what, if anything happens.

BTW a station that would also do better flipped, Mega 107. That station seriously is having an identity crisis.

Any thoughts on flips this weekend?

Well, they took on KRBE (CHR) in Houston with a similar format as HOT 95-7 and now HOT is beating KRBE

KKHH-FM 4.7 1,487,600 CHR CBS Radio
KRBE-FM 3.8 1,475,600 CHR Cumulus

MEGA maybe, The Fan probably not. What happen to the other morning show MEGA had before Shoboy???

I don't think it will be "The Fan", since they have put a new line up together. "Jack" is doing fairly well, so the only thing left is "Mega". since there are a ton of Hispanic stations in the market and KLNO had a strong following, I could see them changing 107.5 and amking it "AMP". We shall see.

URradiolistener is right, MEGA is having a identity crisis. That can't decide which format they want to use Spanish or English. The reason why I say this is because they've been playing Taio Cruz, Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, David Guetta etc.

Mega just hired a new morning guy, and CBS has put a new head of Hispanic programming. There seems to be a commitment there.

Actually KRBE (cume-less) gave it to Hot. Hot is another Jeff Garrison jukebox with no content or sustance. At least KRBE has Content, entertainment value, that is until CUME-LESS took over.

Actually, Hot is not a jukebox, and is no longer ran by Jeff Garrison, so that's incorrect. And if you call KRBE's syndicated Billy Bush "entertainment value", you must be under the influence... ;)

Oh Lord, does Billy have his Uncle Dubya call in periodically? Of course, that's not much different than Mix 102.9 piping in Ryan Seacrest in the afternoons. BTW, their Mix (KHMX) is in the Top 10 (6+, that is,) so I guess you really have three stations there competing for the same dollar. So how many of these duplicate-formatted CHR stations across America will suddenly flip to News/Talk if/when the Performance Rights Act gets passed? I can't see CBS, CC, Cumulus, etc paying out up to $25K per station, per market, just to play the latest Justine Bieber (in addition to ASCAP/BMI fees...ESPECIALLY any owner who doesn't have a vested interest in concert venues or billboards.)

And, with KKHH and KRBE duking it out, is Houston getting to enjoy a battle like our old Y-95 vs The Eagle? You know, the real kind of battle that makes BOTH stations better, makes each hire more and better talent, and gives away LOADS of money and prizes (on a LOCAL basis, of course...no national contests here!) ::)

David -- you didn't point out to Charles 123 that "Spanish" and "English" are not formats!

"Hispanic Programming" is any programming targeting Hispanics, whether in English or Spanish (or Quechua, Náhuatl, Aymará, etc.).
