It's time...

It's time for WZLR to flip... it's been YEARS with this bad book!

Channel 945, as much as I'm a supporter, PC isn't working out, time to get rid of it or flip and leave 1029 as the rhythmic station in town.

OK Gr8t...I'm here to save the day.

Jammin', my friend...you're in college, I know, so I won't be too caustic. Apparently you didn't notice that the numbers on WZLR have been trending up since the Fall of 2009. No drops, anywhere. And that's 12 plus. In radio...that's called...growth. A couple of tenths here...a couple there. Dayton is presently a very competitive market and there are virtually no other sizeable market opportunities in which to place a station. (And no...CHR in any form will not work without a sizeable signal, and the money to compete.)

I took a few days off last week and today, so I haven't seen the demos yet. But, if they're what I expect to see...WZLR could be in or around the top 10 in demo, 25-54. And remember...that's what the ad buyers care about...not 12 plus...not whether or not a bunch of teenagers think there should be another Rhythmic CHR in town. No one who spends money on radio gives a holy hoot about 12 plus numbers. Get that in your head, Jammin. It's all about the demos.

Bubba has continued to grow in the morning...and slowly, yes...slowly, the music dayparts have also begun to respond.

When you're showing a 1 1/2 to 2 in 12 plus...that usually means 3's and 4's, sometimes even more in a daypart or two in demo, if a station is properly targeted.

Please tell me you're studying radio at O.U., Jammin', my friend...or for God's sake, at least take a class in statistical analysis and learn how ratings really work.

Geez, Jammin...you speak well sometimes about Mix 107.9 in Columbus. Where were they at in the last book? About a 1.7 or so, 12 plus?

Oh yeah, Jammin...one last thought:

WZLR's numbers have been up for 3 full surveys in a row...and yet, Lite's down a full point and Mix 107.7 is down 3 full points 12 plus. (Which means a MASSIVE loss in demo.)

So, which station's programming needs adjustment more?

Kevin, i'm with you here...WMMX needs to make some major, immediate adjustments. One is to get away from leaning 80s...read my other post called "Ratings Freefall...Could Fly 92.9 Be The Reason?" for more on my opinion of WMMX here:

I am studying communications, and I know ratings. You guys want to talk about Mix 1077 and Lite 12+ but don't wanna talk about ZLR 12+?

I bet ZLR does alright 25-54, but then what is Mix 25-54? I bet in the top 3.

Mix needs work, I agree, but 12+ is what gets released to the public and that's what I'm looking at.

As far as 1079 goes, I do talk well about it, it sounds good, but can sound A LOT better. I don't just talk good about 1079.... just sayin'

Nothing against Jason/Kevin here(He's been in radio since before I was born and knows the biz inside out!), but I don't like WZLR and don't listen(and i'm in their demo!). I can't stand Bubba and his obnoxious voice, either. I'd rather listen to fingernails on a chalkboard than his stupid, growling voice. The music isn't my cup of tea exactly, either. I doubt Cox thinks much about the "Laptop on someone's desk/in the broom closet" much anyhow. ;D
I was a HUGE fan of 95.3 when it was Classic Rock "95.3 ZLR"...'ZLR played a lot of tunes that WING-FM was known for...sad that Cox got scared of the big, bad wolf known as WTUE and switched to Classic Hits back in '06. :'(

Maybe I have the call signs mixed up or missed a station signal swap, but the WZLR listed at radio-locator.com and at fcc.gov appears to put a local quality signal into nearly all of Greene County, and into not more than a third of the land area of any neighboring county.

(Pattern map:http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM575785.html).

Unless there is some audience that can peculiarly be served on the southeast side of Dayton (how about WRPT-- all WRight PatT all the time?), or a compelling, non-overlapping format that would be unique across the Miami Valley (like if you could persuade all the country stations to go away), I wouldn't think there would be a lot of great options for this signal.

How about 95.3 WSXO (We Serve Xenia Only.)

It can still reach some hot zip codes in Beavercreek and Bellbrook. As for the WTUE issue, for a long time they straddled the line between active and classic, and finally chose classic.

It also reaches up into Clark County, and even did when it was CHR back in the '90s. ;D
