It's True 101.5 Free FM

Sorry I doubted it before, but yes it is true, the zone is goning 101.5 Free FM on January 3rd.

Here's the lineup as of right now:

Carolla-mornings
Frosty, Heidi, and Frank-middays
Leykis-Afternoons
Nights-unknown as of right now.

Hope you enjoy this. Nothing local as of right now

Maybe they'll cheap it out and bring Conway and Whitman in after Leykis. Bet on John and Jeff overnights as well.

It's about time; with the lack of anything decent on in PMD (except Beck on KXAM) Leykis will do very well. KTAR's news gig is a good move IMHO but boring to anyone under 50, Crummey is talented but gets old quickly, Savage pulls in respectable numbers for the station but isn't a huge player, and L&H are a huge joke. Although, I've always thought 105.5 would have been a better station to buy and flip to hot talk, if only for the guaranteed more vocal protests.

Leykis has failed about 5 times here, I fully expect him to do it again.

In fact, I relish it!

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

(I really can't stand combover boy)

I'm inclined to agree - he's as entertaining and predictable as a Springer rerun. Same script, different day.

It'll be interesting to see how well FH&F fares here. Having listened regularly on KLSX before moving back to Phoenix this year, it's not a bad show at all, albeit rather LA-centric at times. I imagine some tweaking for an out-of-market audience'll be necessary.

Although the markets are increasingly becoming one big conglomerate, the triplets are on in both LA and San Diego.

As for Leykis, being on second-tier AM stations with a mish-mash format doesn't count. Being on a 100kW FM with a consistent format that doesn't go out under bridges does. As for Leykis' format, if you want to hear unpredictability, listen to any of the hosts on KFYI attack the democrats. New issue, same rant. Riveting. Ask John and Ken how their predictability is doing for them in LA; Leykis is beating them in men. Nothing personal, I just happen to think there's room for more than one kind of talk. Besides, every time a new country or AC station pops up, people don't say "guaranteed to fail" with the same certainty they do when Leykis comes on.

I think he is an over 50 perv who tries to be hip and is a loser, no thanks.

I wonder if Kid and Ruben will join once their contract at KISS is up. I am looking forward to this new station though, I love FM Talk and its about time phoenix got a station like this.

I think Sean Hannity is a talentless construction worker who tries to be knowledgeable.

True, and I imagine FH&F's anecdotal bits about LA aren't totally lost on a SD audience. Not sure how well they'll go over in Phoenix, though with the throng of SoCal transplants living here they may very well have a waiting audience.

Fair enough. From listening to Leykis in years past, his rants and gimmicks wear thin fast. If you've heard one chapter of "Leykis 101", you've essentially heard them all. Surprisingly, he can be quite good when he deviates from the mold - shame he doesn't do it more often.

Is 101.5 planning on retaining its KZON call letters? KZON needs to stay in Arizona. If they ever leave Phx, we'll take 'em down here in Tucson ;)

I needed proof too so I talked to Steffani and Fathead today. Steffani said yep its true and she is out of a job come Jan3rd. Fathead said well that is what I hear so I guess I will be looking for work pretty soon. So if the jocks are being upfront about it, looks like its going to happen. I actually think since many arizonas go to L.A. and San Diego that Frosty midday show thing will go over well. Kinda cool stuff I must say.

Couldn't you say the same about Stern

50-something guy in hip-hop clothes. In the words of The Offspring, 'pretty fly for a white guy'.

Re: Couldn't you say the same about Stern

Absolutely, but Stern is mildly entertaining.

Leykis is a sad pathetic loser who hasn't had a new idea or variation to his schtick in over a decade.

Howard is a bad boy, but vaguely likeable. Leykis is creepy and scary.
