ITT Schadow switch contacts on PR&E desks

Any recommendations for cleaning contaminated contacts on ITT Schadow bus assignment switches and other related mechanical latching switches on mid-to-late 80's PR&E consoles would be much obliged. I.e. recommended contact solutions, dos and donts and so on. I am well aware of Mooretronix and all services offered, and have utilized their services many times over the years. I am looking for advice from those of you who have successfully cleaned these switches in the field and the issues, if any, you might have encountered. Thanks a bunch

Plastic friendly blue shower or a knockoff of it should do the trick. There's some of the switches you'll likely still have to just replace, but Many that will clean right up for you. I sort of rebuilt a set of bmx ii consoles we got from HQ and then sent off to a less fortunate market about five years ago. We had a big enough shop to do the work and I could do it... So I did. As far ad I know they are still running the beasts down in Jacksonville, Fla... Properly cared for, those old BMX consoles last nearly forever.

We had a house full of RMX consoles. I really liked them too. The airwaves are good for the digital world but for some reason their newer goofy netwave consoles just seem too buzzard for my taste. I have one client that's using one of those. A mirrored vu meter!? Who came ip with that bizzar idea?

Used CAIG labs deoxIT line on the mechanical switches, and gold series on all module edge connectors. Good as new.

I'm not sure if it's still available, but back when I ran a fleet of these consoles, we used a liquid called "stabilant 22". After an isopropyl alcohol rinse utilizing a syringe, we applied the stabilant 22 the same way, and excercised the switches. Was usually good for 8 - 10 months.

A check on google found stabilant 22 still available and still as expensive as ever. YMMV.

I'd like to find somebody with a stash of the original Quietrol, which had pumice in a solvent. Worked wonders for noisy pots and switches.
