iTunes radio station list, is it getting too big?

Your thoughts on iTunes

So they've had my station application for over a week and I've yet to hear anything.

1.) Aren't they currently like the Cadillac for internet stations?

They seem to be almost TOO BIG though. Their Electronica section has almost 1,000 stations....and mine would naturally be at the bottom. BUT, I do like that they turn it upside down and rotate the bottom stations to the top. I guess everybody wins but the stations in the middle.

2.) Should they split large genres into two or three to make things much easier? Should they hire more help? How long was your approval process?

It's a resource hog and it presumes decide what you can listen to. No, thanks.

TuneIn, iHeartRadio, Radio.com, Shoutcast offer more choices and less kludge.

iTunes is for the kind of people who liked AOL.

I wonder what (and how much) it REALLY takes to get listed on iTunes. Clearly, NPR, Slate and others have some kind of "product placement" type deal, the way they keep pushing iTunes.

Fred I've given up on them. Apparently they don't even let you know if your station was rejected......I also read a lot of bad comments about iTunes on the web, how their radio listening app is not doing so well versus others.

With the new iTunes I don't even think you can manually add an internet station to you PLAYLIST like you used to be able to do.

??? Does iTunes/Apple have both oars in the water???

After posting above I finally heard from them yesterday evening. They wanted me to submit my station information a third time....but in XLS Excel format (pervious submissions were in XLR Microsoft Works). I replied to them that I don't have Excel and intend to buy a $100 program to "satisfy" them.

So now they have accepted my information manually.....and are pondering it over. I'll only update this thread if they reject me.

I was able to get my station listed. They wanted me to submit a logo of a certain size and with me being legally Blind it was hard for me. Finally they re sized my logo to fit and submitted the station. Also they wanted Excel but I didn't have MS office and they submitted the station.

Since I was not playing Top40/Rap and playing Progressive Rock (Album Rock) and more than Classic Hits I was happily listed because my station offered something not already on the list (at the time of submission). Your station should be 128K Mp3 to be listed and have a very HQ audio stream. They do check your station so be sure to be HQ Audio and legally licensed as well (They Do Check). You may even want to mention who your licensed with.
