I've been told WMFQ went CHR !?

"Adult CHR" format. I'm listening right now. OMG, LIVE JOCKS right off the bat!
Afternoon guy just signed off. Excellent start!

Actually a CHR leaning Hot Adult Contemporary format makes sense over a full CHR in Ocala due to the fact the median age in Ocala is a bit higher than the median age in Gainesville. Also, WMFQ now covers Ocala with the hits while WYKS has Gainesville covered with CHR and WKZY does a good job with Hot Adult Contemporary. The complete MSA is now served with CHR / Hot Adult with the combined WYKS, WKZY and now WMFQ.

Kinda surprised they call themselves "Q92 FM" when they are at 92.9.

It's actually "92 Q FM" even worse... Q92 would sound better.

When WMFQ operated on 92.7 and prgrammed beautiful music, it was known as Q 92 which stood for Quality 92. In fact the call letters stand for We Mean Fine Quality. During the adult contemporary years [1995 - 2003] it was known as Q 92.9 before becoming 50s-60s oldies Big Oldies 92.9 then shortened to Big 92.9 classic hits / classic Top 40. Today it became Hot Adult 92 Q FM.

WMFQ is a CHR leaning dayparted Hot Adult Contempory FM.

Well then, if it's "dayparted" I'll have to listen after 7 and listen for the CHR switch to be turned on.

When I said it is dayparted, that doesn't mean it goes from Hot Adult Contemporary to CHR at night. It means more hit music currents are played at night interspersed with fewer recurrents per hour as opposed to more recurrents and recent golds played during the day. This is what makes the format CHR leaning as opposed to calling the format Dayparted CHR. We did the same thing in the summer of 1989 with WKTK. The format was Hot Adult Conemporary during the day and was very CHR leaning at night called "Florida's Hot Nighttime FM" although it was not quite full CHR during the evening and overnight hours... But it did come very close to being CHR.

So, "Big" yielded to Sunny?

cd

In my opinion, although WMFQ sounded almost as good as it gets when it comes to duplicating a 70s / 80s CHR FM radio station, 105.9 Sunny FM did a much better job. Rick Stacey knows what he is doing and it shows on Sunny. Shane Finch from WMFQ also knows what he is doing and has done an excellent job with the former Big 92.9. It was just time for a change in order to attract a younger demo that Big was not attracting although Big did have decent ratings in certain dayparts and with select demos. I believe 92 Q FM will perform well within the next two rating periods since this is a 17-year format void that needed to be filled.

Absolutely!!!! However, nights are voicetracked... The evening jock who is on now is actually Dave Tyer who is part of the morning team on WTRS.

Mark, I listened a lot last night. They are equally proportioned. 4 or 5 golds per hour both in middays, PM drive and nights.

I, too, noticed the same thing although yesterday afternoon , to me, sounded very heavy leaning CHR for about an hour.

Am I missing something here?

It looks to me like WMFQ's stick is south of Ocala and with only 50-kw puts just a marginal signal into Gainesville & Alachua County, where the younger listener base is. Would Asterisk be smart to combo this up with either WBXY or WXJZ, neither of which seem to have much of an audience?

Or are both of those babies Sacred Cows? Or extraordinarily profitable?

Which hour sounds "heavy leaning CHR"? Remember, Hot AC is a much different animal right now than it was even just a year ago with so much pop and pop rhythm product.

If you start hearing LMFAO, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown mixed in with the other records... THEN I'd say it's CHR leaning.
