....sort of. First is "Bluegrass Country," the HD-2 channel of WAMU in Washington, DC. All the bluegrass you could want, and best of all, presented by hosts who are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about this music. I bought "Family Circle," the new album by Del McCoury, because of listening to this station.
Actually though, BluegrassCountry.com pre-dates the HD-2 signal by 5 years, having come online in 2001. So, it's on whenever I'm at the computer. But if I lived in Washington, I'd definitely pick up an HD receiver specifically to hear this station in the car. They also have an iPhone app. Bravo to WAMU for looking forward.
Another noteworthy channel (and very different from Bluegrass Country) is WDSY's Y-108 HD-2: "Nothin' But New Country." Just what the name says. Very uptempo and a great selection of new stuff. Some nice imaging, too. It certainly could use a few air personalities, but I guess that's too much to hope for in 2009 HD land. In a market with 2 or 3 large country signals, this could be a main channel format. This station is carried as one of the CBS channels on AOL Radio.
