J.C. Corcoran to replace Walton & Johnson

J.C. Corcoran, who worked for seven stations in St. Louis in 29 years and has been cited as the first radio host in that market to mix politics and news commentary with music, will take over the morning drive slot on KKRW (93.7 FM) beginning March 18, the Clear Channel station announced Monday.

Corcoran, 57, will assume the 5:30 to 10 a.m. slot vacated when KKRW dropped the Walton and Johnson show late last year. Clear Channel Houston officials said he also will contribute to Clear Channel’s KTRH (740 AM) and KPRC (950 AM), although details of that arrangement were not outlined in a news release announcing the hire.

Just what is needed - another cheap channel effort at right wing political radio. I give this clown 6 months before he's yanked.

THank you for giving me, once again, another reason not to listen to the arrow. That and hearing Don't Stop Believin for the millionth time.

I'll ditto this 110% and add that CC has proven, yet again, why I'm now loyal to satellite radio. I haven't willingly turned on any CC station since I finally said "enough" in mid-September (only listening now when I am subjected to it in public or by friends with no ear for quality) and really, this move should not surprise me out of Cheap Channel. Seriously, it doesn't surprise me. And the sad state of affairs gets sadder, even if that news shocks no one. Good luck with that is all I'll say. I could say so much more, but really why waste breath? Too many of you will read my mind perfectly. :)

I'm with Stan on this. I will also agree that inside of 6 months he'll be gone. ;)

I posted this news Sunday night on my blog and linked to some of his work. The stuff I listened to (especially his Bill Maher interview) didn't seem very right wing. Maybe he will change his act when he gets here though.

“With Houston being massively over served by Spanish, Urban, Country, and other special interest formats, options are tight."

W&J consider it "over serving" to target the widest available audience? No wonder they're having a hard time finding a new station, considering their grasp of market economics.

I personally consider it the general population being overserved with the amount of affiliates they still have. Had to make a trip to New Orleans yesterday and heard them on 95-7 The Bayou. We certainly haven't missed anything at all, as I swear they are running the same material that they did a few months ago when they were still heard on The Arrow. I don't know much about J.C. Corcoran, but he's got to be more entertaining than the same tired, old schtick that W&J has been producing for the last umpteen years.

THAT IS AN INSANE HIRE!

Why not just keep W&J if you are essentially going to replace them with a poor man's version of their show? This was a major opportunity to reinvent the Arrow in mornings that Clear Channel missed!

sounds like another cage rattler. and with the option of doing AM talk, he's going to get more chance to go on, and on and on.

I thought Arrow might freshen up also. oh well, I keep to my satellite radio for now.

He is going to contribute to KTRH so one can reasonably assume he will be a right wing-nut.

Corcoran and I went to the same college (Northern Illinois) and when he worked as a jock at the campus radio station, he loved playing Phil Ochs' "Here's to the State of Richard Nixon" ("Find yourself another country to be part of") on his show. He tended to be contentious with the "free form" types at the station, since he tended to play the same songs on each show during a period of time (you have to remember that he idolized Lujack, not the "Kokaine Karma" guy at WGLD), but he was a good production guy and he had a professional sound that a lot of us at the station didn't have. He also did football PBP, which was simulcast on the OTA NPR station owned by the school (to the distaste of the classical music jocks at that station).

And needless to say, his politics might've changed to a certain extent over the years.
