J93.3 files for an upgrade

I saw some discussions about J93.3 below and thought I would post that today I saw they applied to upgrade to 100kw @ 1476 feet. Currently they are 27kw @ 1610. They would build a new tower but around the same area where the current one is. It would be an upgrade from a C1 to a C0. The application they say is made possible because of the relocation of WCGZ.

That would be two new towers for J within the past 6 years or so. That's a bunch o' $$$$$$$$$!

How will this affect their signal getting into Atlanta and beyond? Tom Taylor? Engineerish types want to take a crack at this question?

From what I can tell with some proposed coverage maps is that it will be clearer in Atlanta but do not see any major improvement for all of metro yet it will be stronger on the southside. A big gainer will be Columbus, they would once again be blanketed by J 93.3 so there will easily be a net gain in total audience.

Right you are, Rick! The tower is located aprox 50 miles south of Atlanta and there are several terrain features that limit coverage in Atlanta. They will never have the same signal as the Fish over the north Atlanta metro area but it will offer the opportunity for improvement.
If, and this is a big if, the antenna is optimized well, and a good signal "lobe" can be directed over Atlanta, they may realize a significant improvement.
I think they have filed this app to "hold" real estate.(To keep other stations from upgrading their own signals and limiting J93's options.) I can't imagine the company spending 2 million $$ for a new tower and facilities.

So I guess the slogan "Atlanta's" J 93 point 3 still sticks? Shouldn't it be Peachtree City's J93...?

While using "Atlanta" is somewhat stretching things they are a class C1 that serves a lot more than Peachtree City. It would be more accurate to say "South Atlanta's J 93.3" or "South Metro's J 93.3"

Peachtree City is just the location of the main studios since they can not be in the city of Atlanta due to having to have main studios within a certain grade of signal. The transmitter is close to Concord (almost due east of LaGrange) and the city of license is Manchester.

They are the Christian AC station for Peachtree City, Carrollton, Newnan, LaGrange, Hogansville, Griffin, Thomaston, Lafayette Al, Roanoke AL, Lanett Al, Norhern Columbus and Douglasville all areas that have coverage issues with 104.7fm.

Perhaps they should LMA with 104.7? Hummm ... Fish 104.7 & 93.3 ... or Fishes ... uh nevermind :)

Looking at coverage maps it's a HUGE stretch!

Wouldn't it have been better to focus on these communities in West Central Georgia/East Alabama than pass themselves off as an Atlanta outlet? That's still a nice chunk of listeners/households to serve.
