From The Street:CBS Radio to sell 35 stationsplans to divest itself of 35 small market radio stations, CEO Les Moonves says. Moonves said that the move would allow the company to focus on improving performance at its bigger radio properties. The news comes as CBS Radio struggles with sliding ratings following Howard Stern's departure for Sirius.Moonves made the remarks Wednesday at CBS' annual TV Upfront presentation in New York. Management had previously announced its intention to sell some noncore radio properties.------------------------------------------------------------------Considering there's no cluster of CBS stations in S.A. and no real room for CBS Radio to growth. I would imagine that both CBS stations would be sold later this year. Anyone notice Jack no longer kicks off the start of the hour with a Rock song?

I havnt listened to Jack in a long time, but only because they were sounding to much like the old k-rock. They need to add more blend to the radio more playlist. I think bobfm is a lot better than jack.

You keep saying that, but I'm not hearing it. K-Rock was chock full of modern rock from the last 10 years, (Korn and the like, which I mostly can't stand) which they seemed to alternate with 70s and 80s classic rock (which I mostly like). K-Rock used to drive me nuts with that format that I considered 50% unlistenable.I have never heard any of that modern rock from the last 10 years on Jack. And believe me, I'd notice it!

Quote:I heard "What I Got" by Sublime on there today, right after "Venus" by Bananarama. Wow....now thats one hell of a segue ;D

Not yet. A couple of weeks ago CBS Radio stated they were still in the process of selling. 90+ million for both stations....it's not worth it.

CBS Radio has to recoup the
'Ninety Million Dollars" paid for the 106.9 signal in San Francisco, although they did
get back 35 Million for the 610 AM signal from Family Radio. Also, they need to recoup the cash paid
for channel 13 in Sacramento, CA. Looks to me like they are just trading up for larger market stations!
Might the company also be growing up a pile of cash to buy some of the ABC stations from Citadel if
they choose to sell some of the aquired stations in order to pay down debt from the purchase? I wonder!!

If and when someone buys these stations for whatever amount of dollars, what do you think the new owners will do with it? 102 and 550am have great signals. The new owners could do just about anything. What are your thoughts?

I could see Salem licking their chops in anticipation of putting a Christian AC format on 102.7 (think KLTY in DFW) and Conservative Talk (a la KNTH Houston or KSKY DFW) on 550.

Salem, Citadel, and Clear Channel are rumored to be the front runners. Clear Channel has more to gain than the other two.

I hope CC doesn't win the bidding war. That surely would mean the end of serious competition in News/Talk for the Blowtorch. :p

Start by getting rid of the Ware's and Brad Messer. Talk about BOOOORING dead weight.

Believe me there is someone stupid enogh as CBS to buy it fot $90 Million!

What about the Austin CBS stations? It's a fairly decent cluster ... anyone know who's interested in them?

How about this...

if CC buys KTSA/jack... they change KTSA to KTKR since they have a stronger signal and more football games, baseball games, etc can be heard without the signal dropping.

then change KTKR to a woman's station...LOL

ok, ok... it was just a suggestion... :D

I've never seen the demos, but I bet that milquetoast Trey does well with working women. Ricci's got tenure and can seemingly do whatever he pleases. Brad seems to be viewed by callers as a nice, moderate counterweight to Rush.

I agree that KTKR is the most likely to move over to 550 if CC submits the winning bid, but I hope it doesn't happen. A station full of syndicated fare would be a tragic misuse of a signal that reaches 99 counties, and there's a lot more worth exporting about San Antonio culture than sports.

CBS Corp. on Thursday said it expected to reach deals to sell some of its radio stations over the next several weeks.

"We expect to conclude the process in the next several weeks," CBS Chief Financial Officer Fredric Reynolds told analysts on a morning conference call.

The television and radio broadcaster had earlier said it would sell some of its stations in 10 slower growing markets.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any guess if it's San Antonio, Austin or both markets have been sold?

My guess is the S.A. stations sell first.
