...and probably one of the worst for Entercom. WEEI and WEEI-FM are clearly the company's best asset, though the ratings did just take a dip, putting WBZ back on top.
The new "Boston This Morning" show displays the uncertainty at WRKO, and the speculated new FM talker certainly isn't going to help.
Star's ratings were nothing to write home about, but Mike's presentation, music selection, and horrible ads certainly aren't helping WMKK to go anywhere in such a rock-friendly market as Boston. 93.7's powerful-but-rimshot signal can't be helping the in-city numbers, either.
At least if WBCN bites the dust, WAAF has a chance to steal Boston's modern-rock audience. For now, though, WAAF's numbers (at least 12+) do seem to some of the lowest in recent history.
Infinity's holdings definately seem to be strong. Oldies is good for now, but only time will tell the future success of the station, along with top-rated sister stations WOMC/Detroit and KRTH/Los Angeles. Mix seems fine as well.
But something has to happen with WBCN/WZLX come January, and the new station seems likely to be a talker with the Free FM branding. Infinity has domains for all of their existing talk stations, from successes like KLSX in Los Angeles (971freefm.com) to failures like WCKG in Chicago (1059freefm.com), along with 106.9 Free FM (slated for San Francisco's new 106.9) and 106.7 Free FM (expected to head to Portland, OR). Could they add 1007freefm.com or 1041freefm.com to the list? I wouldn't be surprised.
