Jack Armstrong Passes Away

I took this off the LA board, for those of you who have not heard the sad news that 610 KFRC's Jack Armstrong passed away in Late March at his home in North Carolina.

Jack was a true Top 40 Legend and Talent and the Bay Area was so lucky to have been treated to the talents of Jack during the Gerry Cagle KFRC era, Jack was brought into 610 in the summer of '82 replacing Harry Nelson who had moved back to the east coast for a programming Postion.

The Airstaff at the time was:
6am-9am Dr Don Rose 9am-12noon The Duke As Jack would say 12 NOOOOON-4pm Jack Armstrong
4pm-7pm Mark Mckay 7pm-11pm Broadway Bill Lee 11pm-2am Sue Hall 2am-6am Don Sainte Johnn

The Duke and the 106.9 KFRC team have put togeather a real nice memorial on the 106.9 KFRC website including an aircheck from 610's Jackson Armstrong.

The 106.9 website also has a link to Jack's Myspace account that includes some great Photos of Jack through the years.

I had the opprutunity to work at the KFRC Bush Street Studios behind the Scenes during this time Period and cherish the memories and contact I had with Jack as he was so easy going and laid back to talk to.

Jack was known for taking over the studio and CRANKING UP THE SPEAKERS as soon as he took over the board and Cranking up the Best Music on KFRC.

God Bless Jack and his family

I couldn't believe the news when I received a note this evening:

Extremely saddening news... I hoped I never had to write... Our extremely amazing Dad and your friend Jack Armstrong aka John C. Larsh passed away yesterday March 22, 2008 at his home in North Carolina.
I wish there was a better way to get the word out but this seems to be the fastest means of communication that he favored. If you knew him at all, you would know that he wouldn't want you to be sad for a moment. He would want you to remember all the good times, what he gave to radio and to the world.
He would also want you to help fight to bring back the personality in radio if at all possible. He loved being a DJ almost as much as he loved being a father and that says A LOT. He put his blood, sweat and tears into both and never gave up what he believed in.
He was honest, brave and could tell a joke like no other!! He was the best at everything he did and I know that he touched each and every one of us.
I dont know how he would sign off this letter, maybe it would be "Yoooooouuuuurrr LLLlleeeadaaa!" or just straight up "Jack it up". Either which way he would have done it better than anyone. Please remember him in all that you do, pass on kindness, be true to yourself and to those you love.

If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected]

Very sad, devon larsh fischer ....Jack's middle daughter who loves him greatly - he was an exceptional person.

I was pretty stunned to discover this when reading through 440 Satisfaction recently. I enjoyed listening to Jack during his years in L.A. His energy was incredible and he was great fun to listen to. Right in the pocket with the best of them. RIP Jack and "Gorilla".

All I can say is WOW. I had no idea Jack passed away...what a shock. I've been away from this board for many months working on a new company that I launched last week - shameless self-promotion - a vertical search engine for people planning parties, weddings or events: www.theparty.net This has taken most every free and available minute, so a luxury of reading about my old stomping grounds is rare.

I, like many of you, grew up listening to Jack on KFRC, and I remember driving my mom nuts by shouting it's 10 o'clock with Jack Armstrong and more muuuuuuuuuuuuusssssssssiiiiiiiiicccccccccccccc!

Then as a 21 year-old, I had been the morning sidekick/news guy who had been relegated to overnights at B-95 in Fresno when Barry Richards, our PD, said we were getting Jack to do mornings. Jack Armstrong in Fresno....the legend, in Fresno?

So Jack needed some stiff to read the news and play dumb for his jokes...and that stiff was yours truly. Jerry Clifton hated my news delivery, saying I sounded like I was 12, so they brought in an older guy, but I can say that I did mornings with Jack! If there are any airchecks of Jack's first month or two, I'd love a copy. I know I have some tape with him/of him thatI am happy to send over to David Jackson, if he'd like to archive them.

The impact Jack had on the station was immense as well as the influence he had on some of the staff, in particular myself and The Real Don O'Neal, who went to Kiss in Charlotte and eventually Kiss in LA. The stories were worth the price of admission, trust me.

Jack was a true legend, a great guy and a fantastic mentor. It's been 20 years since those Fresno days but the memories are still fresh. RIP Jack.

If anyone has any stories they'd like to share or to contact me, my email is [email protected]

I love being able to say I worked with Jack and was his friend, too. One of
the most sincere people in this business. With true depth of character, because
of which I especially remember him on Father's Day. He became a single dad and
I never saw one more dedicated.

Wow, Fresno sure has had a lot of major broadcasters pass through hasn't it?
Compiling a list would be extensive.
