Way to p*ss away, what, $50 million in billing? Nice! Just proves that the smartest people don't always work in the major markets and that corporate VP's don't always make the right decisions. Cousin Brucie and Bob Shannon must be laughing their assets off.

If Buffalo Jack performs anywhere near as badly, they might be spinning the Wheel Of Formats at the grand Rand building sooner than we thought. Word from reliable sales reps (albeit at other clusters) is Buffalo Jack is givin' it away on the streets, bonusing it with WJYE and WYRK. 30 bucks buys a 60 in any daypart with a bonus overnight.

Phew... nasty!!!

The rest of that article is fascinating reading. Howard Stern's successors are getting POUNDED! I think the saying is true though, I think you have to give them at least a year. Does Infinity/CBS Radio have the stamina to wait?

I think 92.9 should've just hung in with the fm talk format and changed to Free FM in January. This Jack format is being done much better by WHTT anyways so its a losing battle.

This is an excellent point that I'm willing to back, and add to it by saying that if Jack were a great idea in Buffalo, Entercom would have launched Fickle as a Jack type station instead of the Lake. Also, WHTT would have gone with their idea of a Jack FM. There was more than enough opportunity for a Bob/Jack/Joe/Simon/Mike whoever station LONG before Jack arrived in Buffalo, but the other companies saw other options and grabbed them.

Most importantly, how does one declare failure after only 6 months?
TWEAK it first!...or do your damn HOMEWORK!

Dear CBS:

There is no harm in saying you made a mistake. Bring back the oldies format and all will be forgiven. Seems like the listeners have spoken it would be a great move to say: "I hear you!"

It takes a big person to admit they are wrong!

Corporate VPs NEVER make the right decisions! How many of these tools actually have programming experience? They're all failed lawyers, accountants and bussinessmen (and women? I'm not sure if there are any females in the old boys club)who only seem to know how to speak the language of corporate gobbledygook designed for one thing and one thing only: to make the shareholders happy. So when some fast talker with a new format that has provided instant gratification in another market (after all, who, in these days of radio stations being properties on a monopoly board, is interested in the long term?) comes along, these corporate big wigs are easily convinced. And when they don't get results in 5 minutes, they move on to something else that's a temporary fix as opposed to an audience builder, and they do their little corporate dance for the board of directors and everybody is happy because their exorbitant salaries remain intact for another 6 months.

Meanwhile the audience is left scratching its collective head and saying, "What was that and where is Cousin Brucie?"

Just like the record biz is driving people to other sources to get their music, the radio biz is driving people to other entertainment sources. You know that and I know that. But by the time radio wakes up it may be too late. That is, IF radio wakes up. It ain't gonna happen as long as the corporate big shots are the same bunch of losers who decided that the JACK format is going to be the format to save NY radio.

I agree, but I also think music=FM and talk=AM unless it is mono music, because if you talk, who cares if it's mono or stereo.
