Jack Carney

After reading the previous posts regarding DRC's awful logo, I decided to go to the site to see this mess for myself, and noticed the new name (Scott Michaels)where Jack Carney's name used to be. This shocks the hell out of me, the guys been part of DRC, am and fm for a while. Anyone know what happened? Perhaps this is the stations first step in trying to right a quckly sinking ship.

So, did Carney retire or was he shown the door? No press coverage yet, as far as I can see, although this isn't as big a deal as the Mike Stevens exit, as Carney's only been on the FM for -- IIRC -- three or four years and isn't a Buckley lifer like Stevens or Larry Wells.

I listened to the new guy for an hour or so last night. He was trying a wee bit too hard to connect with his listeners -- a couple of really dumb phone calls, including one in which he completely misunderstood what the caller was talking about. I checked out his profile on the DRC website, but there's nothing about his previous radio gigs. Of course, with a generic name like "Scott Michaels," he could have been anywhere.

Carney seemed uncomfortable with the new music he was playing. Listening to him take requests for Blondie and Joe Jackson, I got the feeling he must have been longing to punch up "Mister Blue" or "In the Still of the Night" instead.

I actually thought the same thing, listening to him front sell a Cars song. Kinda felt bad for the guy. Evidently this was not his idea, he was a casualty of the new direction, which is odd. Usually a new format claims one of the drive shows first.

Used to work w/Jack at 1440WBIS/Bristol & Merv Griffin's Magic104.

Great guy - hope he still does his voiceovers & commercials - used to listen to him in NJ.
