Jack FM = 500 songs

For all the 2000 songs Jack says they have by looking at Yes Net everyday Jack seems to have a rotation of 500 or so songs they play over and over again. I have yet to hear Chicago or the Moody Blues on Jack Yet contemporaries The Eagles and The Dooby Brothers have played almost every day. Jack says there who word of music but Jack seems to live on a small Island on that world.

It seems that even Jack stations have their "favorites" to play such as "Lets Get it Started" by the Black Eyed Peas. It is still a fair amount of songs and there are song I haven't heard in years on Jack, but it is still not as good as the mighty CBS FM.
______________

I have listened to a few Jack stations around the country.

I have heard Nights In White Satin, Tuesday Afternoon, Story In Your Eyes, I'm Just A Singer In A Rock And Roll Band. I don't remember ever hearing Question.

For Chicago, I have heard 25 Or 6 To 4, Make Me Smile. I think I have heard I've Been Searching For So Long, but not sure of that. I am surprised that I have not heard more from Chicago.

If you are talking about other Jack stations it is not suprising at all that these Chicago songs played. But have you heard Chicago on New York's 101.1 Jack FM?

Jack FM

Because you may not have heard certain songs doesn't mean they're not playing them.

Also, we see a lot of disparaging comments about JACK stations repeating some songs and having "their favorites". There isn't a music station anywhere that doesn't play some songs more than others. The whole premise of Top 40 radio is to play the most popular songs the most, the less popular songs less frequently.

Why is this so hard to understand? Because many of you out there are just rooting for JACK stations to fail. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. But this incessant nitpicking at every title and artist they play or don't play is a waste. The minute one of you hears a perfect radio station, please let us all know.

Oldies... You read my mind!!!

Thank You!

If you dont want Jack to succeed, listen to something else! Everyone has different tastes in music and just because they are not playing anything you want there is no need to trash them every minute of everyday on here.

Jack is different and I enjoy the little comments he makes about the mayor and so on...

Yes, but Adult/Variety Hits isn't Top 40. It doesn't even have a chart of its own yet, and I'm not sure how one would really be that useful.

I dig the format, but if Jack NYC has only played 500 different songs, it would make one wonder where the difference between VH and garden-variety classic hits stations lies. Is it just the liners and attitude?

yeah I agree, BUT its a new "Variety" station and NOT a Top 40 station.

Thats what I don't like... I'm like WHO is "HE" and where is he from that he just sits there and insults everything and then tells us our opinions and requests mean nothing... thats not how my ipod works which is one of the reasons I guess I rarely find anything I enjoy and when I do, his dumb comments turn me right off and I flip.

Jack FM

but it IS a Top 40 station-- the biggest Top 40 hits over a 30 year span.
They are that wide, just not very deep (by design).

Jack FM plays more than 500

might wanna check out the Variety Hits board on this "JACK"-NYC only plays 500 songs myth. Title counts for most of these stations around 1,200 titles.

Then they are Lite FM without personalities and promotional content and we know they aren't that...
Edited by JustinCase on 07/10/05 08:35 PM.

I still think that the underlying basis of disgust at this format is its just continuing the depersonalization of radio. New York City is famous for having the best radio talent in history. Jockless stations are real big in Florida in lots of formats. I think it stinks and Infinity is still live in Tampa. I still believe if JACK had Jocks or whatever, a lot of this anger never would have happened. Jockless stations cheat the listener and the industry.

no jox on Jack FM

you say all that under the assumption JACK will not have personalities. Why does everybody think they will stay jockless (and please, no "they're money hungry and want to save money by having no jocks"- it's untrue and has been beaten to death)?

ALMOST ALL new stations sign-on without jocks. Patience, please. If they don't have personalities by year's end, then we'll all have something to complain about.
