Jack FM biting the dust - Free FM fades

Wow new ratings out and Jack-FM is continuing to drop way, way down. They are now at where The Planet used to be, but the Planet's successor, Free FM, does not even show up in the top 25 in the San Diegio ratings! KGB is up slightly, but still on a downward trend. The amazing story is the growth of country radio in San Diego. KUSS is now a top 10 station and the total country audience has grown about 40 percent since Fall 05.

But how is JACK doing in the key demos? IMO, that's the only thing that will determine JACK's future, although I imagine it's a hard sell with 12's like those....

Well, I'm sure Tracy Johnson will be on sdradio.net once again trying to spin it so that we believe a 2.2 is just as good as having Jeff and Jer :)

The 25-54 numbers are about the same as they have been for the last year, which is a tight range. The 25-54 in the trend is higher than what they got in the Winter book, in fact. They are top 10 in that demo.

Ok...

Is the "25-54" demo a lucrative demo to go after?
Are we talking Males and Females?

Has there been a Levine's test on this to make sure these are good samples?
How about to correlation matrix to see what songs will work with this group?

Just wondering about the statistical viability of JACK's audience...

25-54 is where nearly all agency buys target. There is practrically nothing under 18 and nothing over 55... although 18-34 is a common buy. Many buys are vastly more complicated... like Hispanic males 18-49 or females 25-44, but nearly all ad buys are in this target... which is why Arbitron gives away the 12+ data, as it is totally useless for sales purposes.

Has there been a Levine's test on this to make sure these are good samples?

Arbitrron is constantly audited by the MRC, a committee of experts in research and statistics appointed by ratings users... namely, the advertisers.

How about to correlation matrix to see what songs will work with this group?

I am positive KFMB Fm has done numerous music tests (AMT's) to determine what will work and what will not and to also find the apopropriate rotation levels.

So if its not asking for professional secrets, who IS on top? Let me guess KOGO and KFMB...just a guess.

25-54 Sep-Oc-Nov SD
KIFM, KMYI, KSON, KIOZ; KGB, KHTS, KYXY, XHRM, KFMB, KUSS. with KOGO 17th and KFMB (AM) 13th.

Notice that Star is number 2? And so 100.7 switching to JACK was the better alternative? Sorry, not buying it...
star is just number 2 because of jeff an jer, probly after morning the numbers go way down

Flee FM is what 103.7 has become in Sandy Eggo. NO PROMOTION. The shows are too LA for our taste.

San Diego Jack is doing OK. What? You ask! Return of investment has the station makin' more money than before.

Stay Digitally Tuned.

Thus proving that JACK has made ratings a worthless endeavor. If that's the case, I hope that aren't paying Arbitron, what with the potential to maximize profits even more.

I'm just wondering when KFMB AM/FM will become a 24 hour swapshop service...
Ok, I knew better than to say that. Just saying...

the return on investment has been better, G-Dawg. The 10 million dollar salary is out the door replaced with a 1 million a year ... and then the franchise fee for Jack. (I think the monkey has an inclusive deal for peanuts.) Still a head even with lower ad rates. Jack is considered by some, to be the hits station the market is missing.

...Oh yeah, the Monkey!
Forgot about him. You know? The San Diego JACK is the only one with a Monkey.
Which makes me wonder, why not just call it "100.7, The Monkey?"

I mean, I can't figure out if I'm being Jacked around with or Monkeyed with...
This is what happens when you horse around with radio.

Of course...

Garrett is right. First, agencies aren't chasing down Jack that deep in the ranker. Also what Eduardo doesn't tell you is N/T stations make their bones a lot easier than music stations. They have the highest power ratio of any format. So, KFMB and KOGO are doing just fine. While Jack doesn't have the expense of the big morning show, it doesn't have the numbers or revenue it once owned.

Certainly the n/t stations have high ratios. This is in great part due to having more spots even if at a lower rate... what makes n/t so attractive is its ability to sustain higher spot loads and thus generate more revenue.

If you have access to the market reporting numbers, you will see that even in 1995, the year Jack became Jack, KFMB FM was the #3 biller in the market, not even 10% behind leader KOGO. KFMB AM is 8th or 9th, on the other hand, behind stations like KLNV.

In '95, KOGO had a 1.29 ratio, and KFMB AM a 0.91. KFMB FM had a 1.57 power ratio while KGB has a 1.63 ratio... both ahead of either of the talkers. KYXY had a 0.95, KLNV a 0.96, KHTS a 1.01, KIOZ a 1.59 and KSON a 1.04. The lowest of the big stations is KIFM with a 0.62 ratio,

KFMB-FM is billing more than at any time since 2000. KOGO is off from its 2002 to 2004 peak numbers.

Now why exactly was giving up Star 100.7 for this a good idea?
