Jack FM GMs, PDs, and OMs

If you are a small market Jack Fm station like us
i'm sure you deal with ABC's Jack feed. did you
know that on your station until last night, you
were only modulating 20% on the left and 110%
on the right? It was ABCs error, they corrected
it last night.

A few weeks ago, as this happens all the time,
on the weekends the ABC Jack fm clock gets
off track, sometimes as far off as 20 minutes.
If you use automation with "windows" for your
breaks to load, chances are you missed 5 stop
sets a few weeks back, and you had dead air
in every one of those breaks.

Do you have problems with the ABC Jack fm
programming department being cooperative?

I'm aware they're only around 15 or so of us
paying sparknet for the jack trademarks, that
have to use ABCs feed. I'm working on a
petition for sparknet to let them know that
ABC is not working out for us. If you are having
the same problems, email me at my addy
below, and we'll see if we can get sparknet to
go another route with our Jack fm distribution.

One more question, do you notice liners running
promoting "no repeats" only to hear the same
song pop up say, around 9pm and again in the
early morning hours? so our 3rd shift listeners
are thinking we're morons.

Ever notice a liner STUCK problem... one liner
gets on a kick, and will intro everybreak, every
hour... something like "how do you spell commericals?"

Further more, ever get clipping on you :30 after
optional break? ex: local liner fires, 1/2 second
of some song starts, liner and 1/2 second of the
song CUTS OFF and BOOM there's your :30 break
sounding crappy... or even the liner dude saying:
"quick play another song" and the :30 commercial
break fires... (stoop, huh?)

or, how 'bout a song ending, no liner at all, it just
rolls straight into the stop set, mostly at 9 after..

If you're in my boat and you need your jack fm to
be progressive, pro, and sharp... and your jack fm
is your main station, and you're getting no help, or
satisfaction from the network, lets all join up, and
do something about it.

thanks.... :)

Jack Nashville is in-house thank goodness, so there's very few problems. I feared that ABC would be the death of Jack
for the reasons you just stated. How funny that an "alternative minded format" would follow the same cheap yellow brick
road path. People claimed in the beginning that Jack wouldn't last long. Things like what you mention are why it MAY NOT. The
positive side is that Jack should be so flexible in "live" markets that it could conquer it's rivals without listeners figuring
it out. Problem sems to be "blindness" or MD/PD's that are so wrapped up in status quo/it's always done this way thinking
that they don't realize WHAT A REAL GIFT Jack could/should be.

It's cool that you'd express THE OBVIOUS ABC feed problems. I listened to one other cities ABC Jack for three songs before
it was obvious. Denial sure doesn't help the ratings, does it?

I would be curious to find out if this falls under the "ABC Radio Networks" umbrella. If it does, what will happen when the sale to Citidel comes through? Will it get any better or will it just become worse?

Bill - not to be sounding like to much of a smart@$$, but seriously, has anyone heard anything positive about Citadel as of late?

It would make for an interesting discussion somewhere here on RI.

Yes, Jack is part of the Citadel sale.

I thought Jack's clock was supposed to have a 59:55 (exact time) Legal ID? Which would mean they couldn't be 20 minutes off very easily?

I haven't had the opportunity to listen to an ABC Jack, but I'm pretty sure that the 30 second break is a local automation problem.

Also, not intro-ing a break is just fine, especially for a jockless station.

You're right, but I'm sure you'd be as surprised as I would if something positive actually came from the sale. From people I know on the inside track at ABC New York it sounds likely layoffs will be happening too.

First of all, the ABC's Jack clock floats so no hard legal id.

Secondly, the Jack clock has no 30 second break, thats thirty after break, and its not a local problem because other stations are having the same problem!

Anyone will agree, no liner or bumper going in or out of a stopset sounds horrible.

yeah, paul you'd think after reading my post... others
would read it and realize that i was refering to ABCs
Jack FMs.
