Jack-FM; In Retrospect

Dan Mason seems to have taken the "Back To The Future" approach by re-introducing K-Rock and now CBS-FM to a listening market that had been disenfranchised by these failures. Whether it works or not remains to be seen.

Lucky for CBS, Fresh appears to be performing well, and the revamped 101.1 should be an easy cluster sell with 102.7. Otherwise, we'd be going 3-for-3 on classic NYC radio retreads!

But getting back to the original point, I still firmly believe that had the format been introduced on any of the other CBS owned frequencies, there wouldn't have been such an uproar and Jack may have even thrived.

Again"fang" you conveniently ignore the fact an automated jockless station could ever work in NY, on ANY frequency...perhaps it is you who knows nothing about the New York market.

Had the station on 101.1 had personality it would have had a much better chance of success....regardless of all the initial uproar.

You never know. But JACK was "the station that took over CBS-FM." Even though it seemed to be slowly climbing up the ratings, other markets were a lot more receptive. That might have been the case in NYC if it had been put on another frequency (namely 102.7). But, with Fresh back and CBS-FM to return, pending the performance of all three fairly new stations, CBS Radio might be looking at the winning formula... Time will tell.

I remember 2 years ago when the list of station with the Jack format included the listing "WCBS-FM, New York, NY 101.1 OMG!"

Like "What a Coup!" ...now its listed as:

101.1 JACK-FM/New York, NY (HD)

Buh, bye, Jack! Enjoy the Cruise.
