Jack FM KJAC and 102.3 KCUV Sold

KJAC 105.5 Jack FM and KCUV 102.3 has been sold to Morland Properties, LLC. There has also been talk that Jack could be coming to an end in Denver with a sports format taking over 105.5 and maybe KCUV 102.3.

KCUV is currently simulcasting 105.5.

Not to mention a sports station WITHOUT the benefit or support of a network as KKFN, KEPN & AM 1510 (Sorry but their call keeps escaping my memory) are affiliated with all of 'em (And KEPN is IIRC owned by ESPN).

On top of that, 105.5 can't even be heard in Denver proper without KXKL & KALC overlapping the frequency at both ends. They'd be better off either going all-news (As in the old KDEN-AM 1340) with 105.5 or killing it completely IMO.

Just my opinion.....

Cheers :D

Are you serious Chase? Are you sure about that?
Another damn falling format proably over the satellite programming!
Well I imagine so, proably before summer even hits I am just surprised they haven't pulled the plug yet? But sports? Companies have no clue what people really need or what to hear on the radio anymore. That is proably why most of them are getting bad ratings so far. Sports well I can see KKFN beating that out hands down, unless maybe if Morland has a clue and realizes that 105.5 doesn't work in Denver and moves it up here to northern Colorado some place.
So Morland aslo can't think of what to do with 102.3 huh? Keep as a repeater just like it is now, fantastic. Sports would work up here in Northern Colorado though. :)

THE ONLY two things keeping KCUV from being a REALLY good are.....

1) More power (You would think they'd be able to do more in that area of the dial EVEN IF it meant moving up to 102.5)
2) A BETTER FORMAT (Sorry but I think the cookie cutter JOKE format has LONG outlived its welcome here)

If they would at least consider moving to 102.5, increase their power somewhat & flip to sports, they could have a shot of giving KKFN some serious competition (If not as a broadcaster of games, then as a sports talker) especially given the strength (Or LACK THEREOF) of AM 1510.

Otherwise, they'd be looking at an All-News format akin to 1010 WINS considering the saturation of talk stations in Denver.

Just my opinion.....

Cheers :D

At least this discussion is making this msg board worth going to now. :)

That would be a good idea, but the only thing is Denver is closed now on any moving or any new frequency, so KCUV is kinda stuck in that area. It is a good idea if it is even possible to move it to 102.5 just a few click up.
But you have to keep this in mind the border for TRI is north of Denver like around Arvada and Westminster, so KCUV couldn't be that much more powerful then it already is without cussing some interface with Tri 102.
Maybe that is why when it was moved from 1510 they could only get 102.3 instead of 102.5 or they would have put it on 102.5 from the begining

Looks like something could be happening with the two Jacks very soon. As of this week both of the jackdenver and 1055jackfm.com web sites are gone. Here's more from today's article from westword. http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2010/03/jack-fm_websites_down_change_r.php
At least Dealin' Doug is someone LOCAL.

Now if he would buy the Wilks stations as well. Man if he did that, imagine this.....

HD1

KWOF-HD 92.5-1 - The Wolf (Country) - No format changes
KIMN-HD 100.3-1 - Mix 100 (90s & Today) - Move the 80s to KXKL
KXKL-HD 105.1-1 - KOOL 105 (60s, 70s & 80s) - Inheriting the 80s from Mix

HD2

KWOF-HD 92.5-2 - Drop the AOR (Not consistent with this station's format)
KIMN-HD 100.3-2 - Drop the 80s music (See KXKL-HD 105.1-1)
KXKL-HD 105.1-3 - Current KJAC/KCUV format

This would accomplish two things.....

1) It would give people incentives to buy HD Radios

2) It would make 102.3 & 105.5 available for a format which could use the frequencies (Such as a 24/7 News format. Sorry but KOA DOES NOT qualify as a 24 hour news operation in my book)

An alternative to a 24 hour news outlet would be becoming the new home for ESPN Radio (Does KEPN's signal actually travel further than KJAC/KCUV?? Hard to believe if true)

Thoughts?

Cheers :D

Looks like Jack is Officaly gone today. As of this morning KJAC was running loops of different songs that was never played on Jack. And as of right now the station appears to be off the air but the carrier was still on.

Nope, 105.5/102.3 is still Jack

New Developments,

As of last week 102.3 is now KDSP an still simulcasting 105.5's Jack programming until Monday July 19. So starting July 19 KDSP will switch to sports featuring KCNC Ch. 4's Gary Miller and Vic Lombardi formerly on KEPN 1600 and both of them will take the same 7-9am time slots like they had on 1600. There is however a rumor going around that KEPN could lose the ESPN programming to KDSP 102.3 and KEPN might possibly simulcast certain programming from 104.3 The Fan.

Ahh thanks for the insight, becasue right now on 105.5 it is still calling 102.3 KCUV no one has not yet change that for some reason?
so now the question since now we know what is going down for 102.3, what well become of 105.5?

Owners of 105.5 should stregthen the signal of the station and continue with the current format. I love NO DJs and NO SPORTS/NEWS. A radio is for music and there are no TRUE music stations out there. The DJs all talk too much and very little music is ever played!! I like a station that plays the variety of songs Jack does. I don't have to wear ear phones to listen to the music I have enjoyed for so many years.
KEEP 105.5 as is!

Umm I hate to say this but the rest of the world doesn't live in your Mamby Pamby land of Utopia.

Besides, one needn't look any further than the Wilks cluster & perhaps Entercomm's 99.5 to realize how bad music stations are struggling on Denver radio.

Want ALL music ALL the time - BUY AN HD RADIO, AN IPOD OR SUBSCRIBE TO SATELLITE RADIO. Then you'll get all the music you want.

Cheers :D

Yeah that is one way to get music all the time, and your kinda right about music radio struggling in Denver, but you know some stations are doing better then others in Denver. Take a look at KYGO and KOSI they are always on the top of the ratings.
Now Jack (lucky for that station) is kept the same, same music and commercials and it is nice to see that their marketing people are coming up with ways to keep Jack going for the long run to.
I have to admit his dream list is all that it is a dream list (that would never even happen in this reality anyways). People are still listening to radio actually, even the music ones. And I know the ratings do not sure that, but people are listening.

In the case of Wilks Broadcasting (owners of Kool 105), perhaps doing something about their internet stream would be a good idea?

The percentage of online listeners for tons of radio stations nationwide has been rising for years according to various articles on this website, Billboard, Lon Helton's Country Aircheck, Arbitron and tons of other reports, but those folsk appear to be asleep at the wheel.

It's absolutely preposterous not having somone on duty in the studio on Sunday evenings during the broadcast of Casey Kasem's countdown show, and having to miss several songs due to 7-10 minute long blocks of commercials.

The final thirty minutes of last night's broadcast consisted of missing five songs in their entirety, and less than two minutes of another song, and twenty-plus minutes of commercials.

I know that the last few years have been brutal for radio from an advertising standpointhen combined with staggering debt loads, but don't online listeners deserve better from a major market radio station?
