JACK FM Lubbock UPDATE

I checked out the site. Not much for now. However, on the site he says "It's the broadest mainstream music format to emerge in over a decade. The success of Jack FM in market after market is proven. "

The only thing about this statement is that I had very recently read that the JACK in Dallas was not going to be around much longer (lack of interest by advertisers) and that there were many other major markets that this was happening in as well.

Just some food for thought.

Just some food for thought.

Jack is "hitting the road" Thursday in New York.

I find it to be a big misguided direction in marketing, especially in Lubbock. One, there is already a station with the calls KJAK and hence the handle "K-JACK" (I wonder how much Woody has been offered for that set of calls over the past few years)...and the station has been "K-JACK" for about 3 decades now. Meaning to whom will the credit go in the book for the "JACK"? ...not that it'll be a big dent either way.

I've listened to Walkers JACKFM...I am 36 amd I am just not impressed. There are too many really, really, really safe songs from too many different formats from too many different genres. Heard KAJAGOOGOO - "Too Shy" into Springsteen's - "I'm on Fire"; that may be a bad example; but it was just way tough to listen too. I grew weary fast. Check out www.jammin1059.com , KFMK in Austin, I like that. But hey that's just me.

I have to say that I'm one of the people that enjoys Jack FM. The reason is because I listen to everything. One could say if you listen to everything to tune into Mix 100. Jack FM is so much better than that because their playlist is HUGE. So I will not hear the same song in a span of two hours. That is something I really love about Jack FM. I've heard oldies that would be played on Kool 98, I've heard modern and classic rock that would be played on Rock 101 and KFMX. I've heard soft rock that would be heard on Stars 104.3. And I've heard a few songs that would be played on Z102. Its literally everything. Big playlist, nothing being played over and over and over again.

This is why I welcome Jack FM to Lubbock. I have been waiting for it for a long time now.

I have been listening to it. Its cool and all...but I dont feel it will be a station that ever grabs ahold of the market. Which of course means....will local advertisers grab hold of it? I dont think they will.

But then.......... I could be totally wrong.

Yup, just heard that today, but you beat me too it! Must have happened Thursday.
So now we have KJDL AM, KJDL FM....

Any TV station for sale?

It's comparing apples and oranges though since they are different formats with not a lot of overlap in playlist. KFMK is a rhythmic AC; Jack is an adult hits (classic hits/hot AC hybrid). The station in Austin that shares the similar format as Jack is KBPA "Bob FM" 103.5.

I don't think BVG was actualy comparing them though, I think what he was saying is that for the demo, its a better choice for a format, in terms of what the format gap is in Lubbock. If you look at all the formats we have here, the Classic Rock demo is well represented with at least 3 stations at any given time playing similar muisc. Meanwhile, there is no, and I mean no dance classics heard in this market. The one that we did have, KAMZ did well for the 32 seconds it was around. Today? Try to find any station playing anything from the dance charts pre-2003. Inless its the occasional disco track on Kool or JACK, you won't find it. But there's 2 stations playing Urban Music, Two that play Top 40, 3 that cover classic hits. Dance classics? Where are they?

Heres something to think about....

If the lubbock market wanted or needed a DANCE CLASSICS format... they would have one. However, they dont...becuz there is no want or need for one.

I think you all are missing my point....I know the formats are totally different. All I was saying was that I personally don't care for the Jack format. I "personally" would rather listen to a format like that on KFMK. Simply personal preference is all I was comparing.

Actually R,
I did get that, and I am saying that what we are missing in Lubbock is a station like Jammin. My apologies for mincing my words a bit. It's hard to type and while driving...

Any updates on the status of their tower construction and power increase? Last I heard, they were talking about early Auguest?

Concerns about JACK FM Lubbock

I'm glad we have JACK FM in Lubbock now, but...

KJDL confirmed this morning that they are planning on broadcasting high school football games on 105.3 JACK FM.

More and More, this JACK FM we have in Lubbock is starting to not feel like a true JACK. Exactly who am I going to listen to when there's sports on JACK? Kinda misses the point, doesn't it?

Well, let me say this:
I still think putting JACK on 105.3 was a good decision, because it gives another choice. I kinda wish it would be JACK 24/7.

That said, I think Dave Walker has done a great thing, and continues to do great things with KJDL AM and FM, considering he started with almost nothing.

The JACK station is kinda like thowing a party and no one showing up. People have to know about it...if its going to have any chance of staying around.
