104.1 JACK FM (KZJK) in Minnesota is changing to 104.1 The Bear of today at 5, will KJKK do the same? Any thoughts

Wow! Is that the first of CBS' JACK FMs to flip. I assume that The Bear is going to be country? They already have three country stations in M/SP... With JACK's low overhead that is surprising. I really doubt that will happen here butt what so I know :-\

Happy Ending at Jack - Happy ending to commercials on the Ride home - 5 oclock hour commercial free - THE HAPPY ENDING to your day.

If only that actually made it any easier to listen to. ::)

Despite what you may have read elsewhere, it doesn't appear that CBS Radio's JACK in Minneapolis is going anywhere: It looks like the big announcement the station was touting at 5pm CT today was the frequency-related 104 minutes of commercial-free music starting just before 8am and another hour without commercials at 5pm every day, which have been dubbed "The Jack FM Jumpstart" and "Happy Ending," respectively. Lame. ::)

sounds like a promotional stunt. I've seen Jacks do these kind of things where it looks like they're going to flip, but it's just a stunt for a concert or contest.

btw, NY's former Jack was the first to flip to another format; back to the WCBS oldies...well not exactly like its heyday format.

If it's so lame, then why is a board in a market so far away talking about it? You noticed, and you took the time to respond. They gotcha. AND, they got the Minneapolis Star-Tribune which had the story in the paper this morning. They quickly revised the online story.

Did the listeners notice the stunt? Probably not, after it is pretty "inside baseball" - but the media types in the market did notice and that's fun to see happening like it used to. It's actually a variation on a classic Minneapolis format flip ruse from the past...very reminiscent of U100's "Stop The Music" in 1975:

Good job, PD John Lassman!

Kinda like when a country station teases that they are "going Urban"? ;D
