Jack FM Mornings

Anyone hear this woman? Is she funny or interesting?
I've short commute to my picnic. Every time I tune in it's a song.
Are they paying someone a million dollars a year to play records?
______________

Like most other morning personalities, Monique can be funny and interesting at times. she has a very scratchy voice that is hard to listen to in the mornings, but the things she says are interesting most of the time. She does seem much more genuine than a lot of morning hosts. I honestly think that they are still trying to figure out how to balance the amount of music in the morning with the amount of chatter. The first week she was on, they played almost no music. then suddenly, the next two weeks the show was mostly music with only a little talking. Now this week, there is more talking, but not as much as the first week. I imagine that it will take a while to find the right blend of music and talking because they don't want to completely alienate the listeners who tune to Jack as an alternative to the constant yacking that is on the rest of the dial, but they also want to try to make this morning show work, so they don't want to completely clamb Monique up either.

I wonder if she is actually being paid a million dollars a year. As I remember, the contest was for a host to get paid a million dollars a year for five years, but I distinctly remember Monique saying about a week or so ago that she has a three year contract.

Monique is enough of a down-to-earth person who can also be funny that her show could be a success here once a reasonable balance is achieved between music and talking.

Just as a side note, Jack was my station of choice as I worked out at the gym in the mornings. Once Monique came on board, I went out and bought an MP3 player so I could still work out to music. I find this extremely ironic since the whole Jack format was designed to combat MP3 players and satellite radio, and here is our local Jack station making a programming decision that prompted at least one listener to buy a device that the station is supposed to stop me from buying. We still listen to Jack in the car on the way to work, but once I get more music loaded into my MP3 player, Monique's voice will no longer be heard in our vehicle.

My wife and I have given Monique a shot more than once. I have to sadly say that her voice is actually more irritating to me than Mel in the afternoon at Star. Monique sounds like she is going through puberty and having her voice crack on the air. I am sure that she must put on a good show or Jack wouldn't have hired her, but it makes my ears physically hurt to listen to her.

When I emailed Tracy Johnson it was a million dollar deal between all the players in the morning. Meaning, the Monique, da Man, and Sarah split it. Of course, conventional wisdom speculates that it's not even. It is a five year deal; however, again, CW, it may be structured in a way for a three with a two year out.
______________

I think the whole thing smells fishy to me. I know I'm contradicting myself, but based on how events seem to be unfolding at 100.7 (Going Jack, letting Jeff and Jer Walk, and then hiring someone with zero radio experience or talent)it doesn't make a whole ot of sense to me.
But then, I don't get to where the pointy hat and own a nice house in San Diego either.

Tracy is not monkeying around with this one. Never underestimate Mr. Johnson. Jeff and Jer made the choice to move; they upheld their contract.

As far as Monique's radio experience: we all have to start somewhere ....

And ... pointy hats are on sale at selected houses in Sandy Eggo.
______________

She was on the radio in Indianapolis for at least a couple of years I believe. This is not a first time radio gig for her.

I NEVER do!

Something to do with a guy named "Bob," or a station named "Star," apparently...

Yeah, and some of us start higher than others!
Not that I'm bitter, nah...

But I can't afford the house without the pointy hat. I need the hat first, and those things don't seem to come easy. There's a huge demand, not to mention that there's this screening process. It turns out, you need to have collected several pointy hats from other places, before you can get one in San Diego.

Somehow, I'm thinking of a Dr. Suess book now.
