Jack-FM - Playing What Allison Wants

This Friday, 96.3 Jack-FM will be renamed "Allison-FM", and will be programmed by a listener named Allison who "won" the right to be PD for a day.

Why the gimmick? And is the entire playlist for the entire day going to be programmed by her, or only, say, 15% of each hour at best?
She said until 7:00 p.m. tonight. I'm assuming that she picks it ALL up until then.

I would caution her not to play the same song twice in a row. They are too close (on the dial) to 97.1, and someone might get confused into thinking that they are listening to 97.1! ;D

oh i hope she's a Rupert freak !!! can't get enough of "Him".. ;)
I have the 45 of "Him" in my collection! ;D

Looking at the log for September 30 on Yes.com (which you can still do for the next couple of days), you can almost hand-pick the songs that Allison programmed. For example: Does 96.3 regularly play Run-DMC's "It's Tricky" (as played at 11:16 AM)? Most of the remainder of the songs ("Stuck In The Middle With You" et al.) are regular variety hits mainstays and I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't have a say in them not being played.

Footnote: At 10:29 AM, Elvis Costello's "Alison" was played. Of course it was. ::)

While the playlist was definitely edgier than what you might typically hear Jack play, it was also more conservative in places, too. "Waterloo" by ABBA? When was the last time you heard that played, especially on Jack? Also like that I heard the occasional "subsequent single" from albums whose earlier single(s) had been the biggest hit(s) from those albums. Example: "Don't Ask Me Why" by Billy Joel. On the other hand, I could go through the rest of my life without ever hearing "Life Is a Highway" again, and I would never miss it. Ditto "Hard to Handle" by the Black Crows. (But I believe Jack had taken over again by the time the latter was played.)

Interesting: "Waterloo" isn't in heavy rotation on 96.3? It is on other Jacks. I guess your Jack mileage may vary. :D

I really like this concept and would like to see it continue. I got to listen to a lot of "Allison FM" and while I didn't always like her selections it was cool.

I do wonder how much leeway was given because I can tell you that if I won you would here a lot of "B-sides". ;D Which, I'm sure, would turn a lot of the sheeple off.
