Jack FM sounds better than Bob FM. I notice that Bob FM added more music to their playlist, Beatles,Steve Perry, and a couple more. But Jack FM is one of the best stations. I don't know why. Jack FM will be there for a while or forever.

Guess it all depends on what side of the City you live in. Way up here on the NW side of town, you can forget it, but I love listening when I have to drive to the Southside.

I've gotten pretty bored with it (having listened since its sign-on). "Playing what they want" still excludes 75% of what's out there (that's still familiar enough to the general public); when your "big library" starts getting burned out, then your library ain't big enough! And Tyler can't seem to sell it either; I've never heard so many PSAs in my life! :p

At least a few Jack stations have burned out. Indianapolis is a classic example having gone from "Playing What We Want" to "Indy's Classic Hits." I haven't listened to 97.3 since shortly after it signed on as it's the same satellite programming my local Jack FM runs. As for Tyler not being able to sell it, I wonder if it's because the signal covers such a small area? It seems to be doing rather well in the areas where its signal is strongest, but that's not the majority of the market.

Bob still seems to be playing "American Pie" about once every 36 hours... and it looks like power ballads scored big in their recent music test...

I think Bob and KOMA trade American Pie around. Both of them have played it so damn much it's pathetic. I USED to like that song... Anyone else find it irronic American Pie centers around Don basically complaining that the good 50's music was replaced by the Beatles and KOMA plays the hell out of it?

..Things that make ya go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

???

It is Bob's 124th most played record with 5 spins last week. Whereas, Sweet Home Alabama takes No. 1 with 13 spins.

..124th most played, eh? that's once every 33.6 hours! (pretty close to my 36 hour estimate... wow!)

I live close to NW50th and Meridian and I get full signal here on my Nakamichi. Now when I travel north I do lose signal around Quail Springs. Interestingly though along the I-35 corridor you can pick it up all the way to Guthrie.

I like the station. I listen to them exclusively. I've noticed the low ratings and the PSA's and more repetition than it is purported to have. Plus the fact that it is coming up on a year now on the air and they still call themselves "NEW".

This is a pretty common practice. And believe it or not, there is some method behind it. Bill Drake (Drake-Chenault) started this practice in the golden age of AM top 40. The philosophy is that keeping the 'new' in the positioner helps maintain some sense of perennial 'freshness'. According to Drake's research and his amazing results, it actually works on some level. This is why you see MANY stations nationwide keeping the term 'new' in their positioner for years.

Sorry guys, I've got to be honest here.

That is the reason why I don't listen to local radio that much anymore. ;D
"New" is old, Playlists are old and whenever I'd tune into local
morning shows it's a constant laugh track. It's like as if each one is
trying to out do the other and I feel completely left out of the joke.

I can't imagine what the listener thinks.

I love music of all genres however there is an extreme need to mix up
the playlists, do something different, reach out to your audience,
stir things up in the community, Stunt, DO SOMETHING BUT DON'T BORE ME TO TEARS!!

I don't care what your auditorium tests mean, you've alienated your audience!

I'M BORED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve,

This is off-topic, but how long were you on light 105?

And what exactly happened there to make that station go away?

Gary, great question.
The Light 105 was really a great Contemporary Christian station.
The only problem with Light was the problem with selling the format
to perspective clients. It was really an uphill battle for light to achieve
enough sales to keep the station afloat.

Internally, we did have our differences on some formatic issues.
One, I felt we were a little over-conservative and really needed to reach
out more.
Two, there was a bit of disagreement over the salary arrangement.
I was told there were bonuses involved in reaching certain points in the arbitron,
only to find out later that they wouldn't honor the bonuses do the fact that Light
didn't subscribe to the book. Kind of a "gotcha" if you know what I mean.
Even though I knew and they knew what they were and how much Patty Garret
and I accomplished doing the morning show.

Ok.

I had always wondered why that station went away. OKC seemed at the time like it was ripe for a Christian AC. So when it went under I was suprised.

BTW, you probably know this. But your former producer Mark James is quite successful in the sales arena in Tulsa at KXOJ.

Yes I heard that. Mark is a great guy with a great spirit.
If you see him or talk to him please tell him I said Hi.
Terrific guy and great on the air!

Will do, Steve.

BTW, when Mark left the air...I wasn't the only one in Tulsa who was suprised and disappointed.

He was a natural. But I guess he has a mortgage to pay! =)
