Jack FM

I've liked Jack FM for a while. They have an announcer, pre-recorded speaker, whatever you call it, in between some of the songs. Usually saying something funny, or "playing what we want." I heard him say today, "The difference between Jack FM and the apes at NPR is this..." and then went into a commercial. What a great line!

So you enjoy listening for the commercials?
Ads are better than JACKs burned out music and moronic
one liners.

Looks like the Joke is on you...

Oh my! I guess Jack is okay if you want to hear someone else's iPad but I'm surprised the Buffalo radio listener is satisfied with this. Buffalo has a long reputation as being a place where personality radio was king.

I like music but when something newsworthy is going on, I want to know about it. Not only Jack, but with other music intensive stations we have lost that. Nothing stops the parade of hits, nothing.

As for me, I like listening to NPR. I especially enjoy "Marketplace" which I find informative and entertaining.

Marketplace is the best money show on the radio and Marketplace.org is a terrific website. I occasionally listen to Jack. I like the station's variety. The guy who reads the promotion blurbs has been doing it for such a long time that I almost don't even notice much of what he's saying. I can take about three or four commercials, then I switch to another station.

There are lots of choices if people in Buffalo want personality. There are even some stations that provide personality only and no music. Why not offer an option of music only with no personality? That's what having lots of stations allows you to do. It's just an option. It's not a forever thing. You're not getting married. You're just spending some time. No obligations.

The guy who started this thread is a shill for WBEN and hates NPR.
He claims the JACK sweeper said "The apes at NPR".

That's funny to primitive minds, but incoherent to thinking apes.
After all, "Some apes are more equal than others"...

It's funny to thinking human beings that know, that instead of a commercial, WBFO, NPR, whatever you want to call it, will be begging you to call in and make a "donation," to be able to continue to spew rhetoric, as opposed to listening to a commercial of something that may actually be useful to me and have the opportunity to support a local business.

Personality with horrible music (WJYE) is useless (and a horrible personality at that). Sure it would be nice if it was a real person in between the music on JACK FM, but if I'm on a music station, I want good music.

The one that posted about the news, well as I've said before, I don't want Bill Lacey on 104.1 giving me his opinion on a Yahoo article from the previous day.

WJYE used to have Cheryl Hagan read the news when they had good music on.

Buffalo also has a long reputation as a blue collar manufacturing city. That's changing, but slowly. So are listener habits. Some want to hear someone else's iPad playlist. And for those who want all music and no talk, there's Jack.

I've had this liner playing in my mind for my former haunt(WBNY-FM): "91.3fm WBNY. Playing whatever we've wanted since 1982. We just don't feel the need to tell you this every 5 minutes."

And the announcer in question is Howard Cogan, who has that honor for all of the Jack FM stations.

"spew rhetoric" har, har... That's almost funny, considering that WBEN spews rhetoric like a cow spews dung.

Does Dandy not know that WBFO does underwriting for local businesses, as well? Or has his WBEN rose-colored glasses blinded him to this fact?

Oh, by the way, how'd WBEN do 25-54?
