Glad you enjoyed your JACK experience. I really enjoy that format also. As for the format itself, it is programmed locally in markets 40 and up (though there are a few exceptions), in much smaller places JACK is piped in via ABC radio in Dallas. You will not hear any jocks on JACK as the imaging and liners allow a voice guy to give the JACK personality. On almost all JACK stations the voice imaging is provided by the same guy. As you stated the playlist is a combination of classic rock, recent top 40, hot AC, 80s music, and with some stations, you can hear a few oldies as well. The devirsity of the playlist and the number of songs in a JACK audio vault are the primary driving factors of the formats success. As for it coming to Memphis... well I've been here a year and about this time last year there was a lot of talk on this board of someone flipping to JACK. It didn't come to pass, but with the state this market is in you can never tell. FM100, 93X and WMC 790 are all up for sale. The Buzz has been going down the ratings s---er every book. WRVR, the BUZZ and FM100 are all out for the same AC crowd; another two are battling for the classic rockers. Additionally, there are many who say that the good doctor Flinn will opt for JACK when he has tired of running rythmic CHR on 107.5. Bottom line is that there could be a lot changes on the way format wise in this market and JACK is just on of the newer formats that might appear here...so stay tuned.
