Jack has left the building

As of 12:00 104.1 WYOK has left the building for top 40 (again) due to the demise of ABB, I don't see this lasting long as it sounds too much like I-100. This is a killer signal and they should hire the old ABB staff.

If 107.3 fixes their signal issue- 107.3 will win this battle.
104.1 is such a clone of WABB. There logo throws me off. Haha

I would guess (with no background on the matter) that 107.3 only moved to consolidate facilities with TK101. There doesn't appear to be anything going on to up the signal, and it's been there for years. Red Headed step child of CC Mobile/Pensacola.

The way Cumulus handled the whole situation is just bizarre to me. Why get rid of I100 at all if you were just waiting for wabb to disappear? Are they that devoid of creativity that they have to copy every aspect of wabb including (sans the calls although all they did was replace the "B" with a "D") ::) the fonts, liners and talent. I know some radio professional is going to come on here and defend this embarrassment. But all I got to say is I hope 107.3 whips there butts out of principle. Okay rant over. :)

Crumbs likes taking other peoples formats and monikers. But they love ruining them and failing miserably at their empty attempts. You will see a few billboards and they will try to recreate, but in the end, the suits will prevail and the station will go on life support and sound pathetic and then....

I'm too old to like the format, but I think it's pretty cool that Cumulus thought enough of WABB to try to keep it's image alive a little longer...

On the other hand, the only reason I finally consented to sell my dad's old house was because the buyer was going to bulldoze it.

Hum, this is a tough call to make.

Crums only sees a cheap way to take other peoples work and years of goodwill and run with it. I can't blame the decision to do the flip. What I see as a pattern is that they piece a product together quickly and after a few months they have sliced the core out of original format and then eventually the station is a shell of what it was.

Let's just wait and see. It is premature to place a bet on either Clear Channel or Cumulus. Company vs. company, signal vs. signal, unknown airstaff.

One thing I do predict is that Mobile/Pensacola doesn't need more than 1 Top-40 CHR. Hopefully one will win so the other can go another direction.

The comments on Cumulus aping the WABB heritage are interesting. I thought there would be more outrage. Personally, I find it a very cynical move and think they'd have been better off letting WABB go away and going with new branding. People have come to expect a certain way of programming and hosting from the heritage station, and pretending to "pick up the torch" implies they will continue with the direction WABB took.

Maybe they will, but their history in other markets seems to suggest otherwise.

They should change calls to WABD or WADB or something, rehired the entire WABB staff or most of it and talk about how the stations lives on or has just moved down the dial.

Even if Cumulus Media had rehired some former employees of WABB or all of them, saying WABB-FM lives on would not be accurate, as they all would be working for a different company in a different facility with a different history.

I'm willing to give them the benefit of doubt in this case. This isn't going to be like Journey where there's a computer in a closet and voices piped in from elsewhere. They've actually built a studio somewhere for the morning show, and pictures of it are on their Facebook page. I think they may actually be throwing some money and sweat equity at this go-around.

Why build a new studio when there are used ones sitting empty? It seems to me that WABB (97.5) has one they are no longer using. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy or lease that studio or buy the equipment and move it into an empty room wherever 93BLX has their studios?

On the other hand, 93BLX probably has a backup studio 104.1 could use or at least enough backup equipment to set one up in an old FEMA trailer out back.

Now that some of the former 97.5 DJs are part of the new WABD 104.1 and the Cumulus empire are any of them voice tracking shifts for other Cumulus stations in other markets yet?

Nope. I seriously they are not going to voice track it if it's not the local former WABB Dj's because Mobile/Pensacola listeners are so wrapped around that they can't live without hearing the former dj's of WABB. It's the most silliest thing. The station plays the same crap over and over again. 107.3 in terms of their music selection is so much better. They just need to have a stronger signal.
