Jack In Columbia?

Since the question was posed for upstate, what about for Columbia? Could, would or should anyone try it?

I have also wondered who might step up to the plate and try a Jack format... I don't think CC would try a Jack format in Columbia unless something went really wrong with their cluster... I know in Iowa they have The Bus and in TN they have The Max, but those are the only two that really stand out... I don't see IC trying Jack either since they just fliped The Hound to sports talk... For the most part the rest of the IC stations are doing fine... Now for the next group Citadel could they be the one that would try a Jack format... they have B 106 and it does very well in the money making dept they have Kiss which is doing very well on it's own also and then there is OMG which has been kinda in the ratings rutt of late which if Jack did come to town that would be where it might land... The next question would be how would they program it to protect B 106... They have The Peak in TN, but from what I gather it is not really a true Jack kinda of format, but more or less what WNND was doing at 100.3 in Chi Town which was a hot AC 80's and 90's format which did not go over very well... Last but not least there is Double O with their one two punch country fotmats... I have not had the chance to listen to those two stations yet, but from the ratings they are doing what they are designed to do and that is hurt WCOS and from a ratings standpoint that is what they are doing so I don't see Double O doing Jack anytime soon... That is my thoughts from up north can't wait to get down south in six weeks... Have a good one!!! CC

It's really a question of who is desparate enough to try it or who is more afraid of someone else doing it before they do it. Pretty much everyone is in a good position.

Check out www.edisonresearch.com for their thoughts on the format.

Oldies WOMG would be a good guess. They've been slipping for almost 2 years now, but I hope the new PD can bring it back to what it once was.

Actually WOMG pulled a pretty healthy 12+ in the trend. Of course its an unweighted trend and it's a beauty contest, but the 12+ share that they have is still a lot of ears. The in-demo stuff may not be quite so rosy, but for the local advertisers that just need the cume and frequency to get results, bodies are bodies...

WTCB also had a pretty good trend up 12+.

WARQ is still trending down. WNOK was down slightly. WCOS is off big time from where it was a year ago.

Maybe JACK replacing Lite 96.7 would be a possibility? For some reason they don't do very well.

A similar format is possibile. Clear Channel doesn't deal with the "Jack" licensing folks, so it would probably be called something else. Lite has always been a flanker station to keep a Hot AC challenger away from WNOK. Frankly, Lite isn't really that "light." If CCU wants to clobber B106 once and for all, it may do the Variety Hits ("Jack" or "Bob") thing.

CCU seems to like The Bus as their Jack clone... CC
