Mike, it looks like from this post on a board down South a year ago (7/3/04), that you almost got back into the game back then. What happened?

"A friendly hello from a "yankee" who's been offered a job in the Virginia-North Carolina region. Sorry if that description sounds vague, but I have to be careful because the person I'd be replacing is likely not aware of the impending change. I'm told his contract will be honored and he'll remain with the company. I'm trying to be discreet and respectful. To be a bit more specific, the market is NOT Charlotte".

You are 100% accurate!! Peter left Q 102 and went to Kiss 98.5 for a short period changing his name when he jumped ( always thought it was weird they had Donny Walker and Sky Walker).. Peter had a pretty cool retro show on 102.5 that was a mix of funk, old school rap, disco, dance and top 40 to bad they canned it and he jumped ship..

Tom Fozzio Took over a few weeks before the show was canned...The station wanted to have an older sounding Saturday night...the new host didn't make it work, so the show was canned...Tom kept doing Sat. Evenings for a while after though...I'd recommend Tom for Jack, but I fail to recall anything outside of those last few shows...which, respectfully, weren't all that bad, but still...Tom would be a better fit with WJYE, or a Format similar to that...aparantly women loved his "soft voice".
______________

Are you sure that it wasnt Peter Andrews that took over? Im almost positive it was Peter that took over for Peter..

You know, radio_is_dead, I reported this post to the moderator. And I hope something is done about it. Maybe I'm just an old fart. But I enjoy this board because, for the most part, we have a reasoned discussion. Sometimes we disagree, and do get angry with each other. And I suppose your post is a prime example of the way most Internet boards are (the Syracuse board being a prime example). But I just found your post really offensive. It adds nothing. You obviously have some issues. I'm not going to speculate what they might be. But stay off this board. We're radio professionals and diehard fans of the medium who want to talk about the industry. I like the fact that people who post here are receptive to the ideas of others, and can sometimes be clever and creative in their responses. You just ruin it! So, please go away!

It's not about teaching a lesson.

As Phil pointed out, it's about exchanging ideas, having a little fun, learning a few things and appreciating what people do for a living and as an artform. It's about writing creatively, articulating an opinion and in some cases, fervently defending it.

Some of the people who post hear ARE in fact experts, credible and knowledgeable radio people. Others, like me, are simply fans of the medium.

Sometimes, it's easy to get caught up in what we think is right and how strongly we think things should be done. It's not my intent to play the role of righteous arbiter of good posts, but on behalf of the board, I ask only that you have some RESPECT for the game, the poeple who play it and the fans who love it.

Best regards,

Janos Surlikevich

Re: My guess.......

Most "Jack"-type formats do not have live announcers, in morning drive or any other daypart.

Chances are, morning on WBUF-92.9 will simply be more "Jack" automation.

One of the major facets of "Jack"-type formats is the lack of announcer chatter.

There's a chance you may be correct about Peter A. taking over Saturday nights, but not durring the last Saturday night retro shows.

I quote: "I'm Tom Fozzio, your new host for the Saturday night retro mix"

They even went with a new Star wars theme intro. Tom did A Saturday or two after the show was canned, but I'm not sure if Pete A took over by the second or third Saturday after that or not...I only recall Tom doing the last, (or second last show...?)
______________

Hmmm...isn't that the purpose of an ipod though?
Where's the Three E's?
Educate
Enlite and
Entertain.
On a local level, this is desperately needed for 92.9 to remind people of what they are missing out on if they use their ipod for an alarm clock instead.

As things turn out, another facet of how Jack performs in most markets is declining AQH combined with terrible TSL...a very difficult combination for even the best of sales departments to cope with. (Check what happened in Toronto, where Jack 92.5 just hit a new ratings low in the spring BBM, for one example.)
If Infinity doesn't heed the Arbitron/Edison study's findings and add personality to the mix in most dayparts, it's hard to see how they maintain even the current low ratings they have now.

Longest Thread In Recent History

We're still yackin' about Jack? Holy cow, this station must have some kind of pull if we're still posting one, two, three times in the same thread!

Jack is a rancid radio station. I agree with Doctor Bob and some of the posters who've opined that it's a one, two book station unless something is done to make it consistent. As it is now, it's just consistently IN-consistent. In other words, bad.

Maybe it is consistent. Consistently BAD, that is.

The other day, I'm pushin' buttons in the car. I listen to 97 Rock... playing some Zep chestnut. Pop over to 97.7 and they're crankin' some Can-Con... hit Q-107 and they have a good Rolling Stones tune on, press the button for the Lake and hear, admittedly through the picket-fencing, a cool tune by John Waite.

Press the button for B-low Jack and what do I hear?

Taco, "Puttin' On The Ritz!" A bad Taco (as if there was ever a GOOD Taco song, outside of the My-tee-tah-coh jingle) song ain't gonna attract swarms of listeners.

Taco!? Lame, lamER, lamEST!

Taco's Puttin' on the Ritz? lame?
HEY! I love that song!...although, perhaps better for a one hit wonder Wednesday, or something like that.
You prefer over play of Laura Branagin's Gloria perhaps? (*sob* r.i.p. Laura)
______________

Well, I've been fortunate enough NOT to hear Total Eclipse of the Heart (girgle) by Bonnie Tyler (burp) all 5+ minutes of it which was a huge hit (barf)when I was on the radio (gag). That song (regurgitate) was one of the worst ever!

The definitive version of "Puttin' On the Ritz" can be found on the Young Frankenstein sound track. One of Peter Boyle's finest moments...

Good god, man!

Neither.

Next we'll be discussing Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You," which sadly defined her in a way totally opposite her style... the woman could cook every bit as well as Chi Coltrane on "Thunder & Lightning."

I believe Ms. Ripperton passed as well.

Perhaps it's time to initiate a new thread.

Re: A Modicum of Protocol

You know, Janos, you really can't talk reasonably to this guy. He has one point of view only and nothing you or anybody else can say will change that. It's up to this board's moderators to ban this person like they did with that Joann whatshername. In the meantime, the best thing to do is avoid responding to anything that radio_is_dead posts. If we don't encourage him/her. he/she will go away.
