JACK over??

How many more crappy ratings books will it take for this non-format to fall out of favor in the "GM's Club"?Chicago, New York, Baltimore, Dallas, etc. are ALL heading downhill or(in the case of the first two markets)were non-starters. Here's an idea....go back to 70s-based oldies (classic top-40) but don't use the"O" word! Demos: 45-54. Better than a 2-share "adult hits" station!

But that's not the direction that the company wants to go. Have faith in Jack! They killed off a better format for Jack, so it MUST be better. LMAO ::)

However, LA's Jack is the number 1 English-language station--and many of the Variety Hits stations have held up in the target demos. The format's not dead by any means. And just what is it you love about 300-song playlists and morning zoos with giggling sidekicks and inane prep service material?

Jack not doing so well on the east coast??? Im out here in vegas, we've had Jack for about 9 months, and its seeming to do well, so far. How long has Jack been on over there? just curious. predictions that jack will fail miserably over here? i guess we'll just have to find out if it is something that the listeners will get bored of. alright, thanks for the input

What works in Los Angeles won't work everywhere. I always though the chicago market (and others) where very different than everywhere else.

One year next month. The story is that it's not doing all that good in 12+, the only numbers the general public sees, but it is doing well enough or showing encouraging signs in their target demos, so CBS won't drop it immediately.

and of course we need to talk about 'bottom line" here. Ratings are not nearly as important to these companies. The fact that they don't have to pay jocks with "Jack" and that it might be easier to sell because of "better" demos means that whatever we think, "Jack" is the finance department's friend.

Although in Chicago, WJMK is still paying the salaries for Fred Winston, Greg Brown and Dick Biondi to do shifts on the HD/web stream oldies channel while their contracts are still active--while every other HD channel thus far is automated. And board ops are still running the boards for Jack on 'JMK (and I suspect in the other major market CBS stations). They may be a little cheaper, but they're still paying salaries.

I recall David Eduardo mentioning in the past that because of the intense production required at KCBS-FM and other big-market Jacks, CBS was paying almost exactly the same in salary for the production staff/board ops at 93.1 JACK FM as they did for KCBS's old classic rock format.

Jack-off.... done ....over... really - I'm on drugs sure but tell me / show me one Jack station in a top 20 market that is top 3 and billing like a money maker so much so that the GSM's and GM's are counting money with their tounges all the way to the bank. Jack needs to be modified as a format to stay successful. No personality, no local feel~ Every Jack station I have heard sounds pre-packaged cookie cutter radio with lame production elements. I can't see Jack doing much more in a year from now unless they morph and make some changes. It's a novelty format that has seen it's glory days and slidding down the slippery ratings slope into the dumper....but that's my thought and thats the drugs talkin too ! :pthoughts ????

Agree. It's toast in any REAL radio market. Meaning that Chicago, for example, is too much of a personality town. Liners and smug station voices don't cut it there.Plus the music is a trainwreck....and I don't care WHAT the consultants and researchers say. It has no legs.
