JACK Reservations being taken!!

Re: JACK Reservations being taken!! And WRRK passed on the invitation

Everybody seems to be so excited about "Jack" doesn't anybody care that whoever flips to this new "flavor of the day" format people will lose their jobs?

Doesn't anyone see thats why Clear Channel & Infinity want this format to catch on, so they can have a computer & transmittter as their morning show team. This cannot be the future of Radio, but everybody is licking their chops waiting to see who will do it first. And maybe thats one reason why WRRK didn't go Jack in December, yes some people lost their jobs. but they hired replacements, well 2 replacements for afternoon drive and 1/2 a replacement for Bonny, I liked Bonny
and yes Bob & Tom are not from Pittsburgh. but, they are live and I think very funny. and WRRK from what I was told when I called, Quinn left them so WRRK exercised its options and made a good decision on his replacement. sorta like what K-Rick will be going through in Jan 2006.

And Yes, I did read the posts about no jocks = jack. I just thought I would add my 2cents here

So whoever flips first I will just turn "jack-off"

CC doesn't have any Jack stations and very few Variety Hits stations in general. Infinity certainly has many of them, but being jockless is just a by-product of Jack, not the main reason stations are switching to it. It's the early 25-54 success of Jack in the Dallas market that sold Infinity on the concept. The first trend in Los Angeles looks promising as well.

As for WRRK, What angered people was all the stunting that went on for basically nothing. Very anti-climactic. Since their ratings have been poor since Quinn left, Jack could have been their golden opportunity. As much as the big companies get criticized, I respect that they have the courage to make bold moves when they see opportunities to win.

Not to mention, you can sell anything if you give it a catchy name. This is beginning to sound more and more like the automated stations that once were the small-town FM studios alongside the full-service AM operations. (See Laurel Network in State College pre-1980 and Clearfield well into the 1980s for examples.)

Good observation.

I'm feeling agreeable today, re the loss of jock jobs and the loss of an opportunity on 'RRK's part. Both these thoughts are valid. WRRK's "rock without rules" is Jack without conviction. The payoff was clearly anti-climactic.

Last but certainly least, FM 93.7 is my guess. FM 100.7 has too many good elements of several former Infinity operations (it mixed what was good about FM 93.7 over the years, including John and Bubba, while their newscaster went to KD's so-called "Morning News") for the p.r. bloodbath Infinity would take. FM 107.9 is flicking off the frogs, and KDKA ... who ever heard of Jack AM?

(Just kidding on the latter. KDKA is having too much trouble transitioning into being a typical CBS-owned-and-operated news/talk for management to dump it all for an automated muzak for the 21st century.)

Ain't that the truth! Whatever happened to PD's who programmed their own stations based on what worked in their markets? If all stations are going todo is jump onto the latest bandwagon with cookie cutter formats with cute names, why doesn't CC and/or Infinity simply start a Jack network that carries the exact same program nationwide, like back in the days of NBC Red & Blue, CBS, and Mutual?

I think it may someday come to that for some formats and some operators (i.e. all of Clear Channel's soft AC's could run a birdfeed called the "Lite FM Network" [featuring Delilah at night], all CC's top-40's could be run off a "Kiss FM Network" [with "American Idol"'s Ryan Seacrest, who also does the morning show on KIIS-102.7 in L.A., as morning man for the entire network], etc., etc.).

As for "Jack", I wouldn't be surprised if it comes to Pittsburgh as early as this Friday (June 10th), but in any event, no later than July 4th.

My guess is either at K Rock or Star. If they do bring the Jack FM format to the Burgh, Do you think the playlist will be anything like Jack Fm in Dallas?

Re: JACK Reservations being taken!! And WRRK passed on the invitation

I hope it's 93.7. We can't get 100.7 in Eastern Ohio.So if this would happen here is how my pre sets in the car would stack up

93.7 (Jack, Myron or whatever it would be called)
95.3 WJPA
102.9 Y-103 Youngstown
105.5 Kool 105 Wheeling
106.3 The River

...and Rock without rules goes bye bye!
______________
Henry Aaron hit 755 career home runs. How many of these were of the "inside the park" variety ?

Infinity-owned Westwood One did: the satellite-delivered SAM Radio (Variety Hits format) debuted on Monday. A station in Maryland and a station in Idaho signed on with it right away, and I imagine there will be many others to come.
______________
