Jack Ryan's big announcement

Jack Ryan and Merle each have big announcements at the same time on Monday. What if it's a format swap with WNOX? I wouldn't put it past either Meridith or Pirkle. And it wouldn't be that difficult. Johnny could call each of his half dozen listeners and tell them personally.

"Good morning and welcome to Ed & Bob's Trading Post on NewsTalk 96.7!"

On the Merle Facebook page they're saying somebody leaked that they're going disco.

Good news for Jack, he landed a new gig.

Bad news, it's on a station that can only claim groundhogs and earthworms as the audience.

Well then, count me among groundhogs and earthworms because I'd much rather listen to Merle than the same old worn out top 30 country-pop music that the frog plays. Over and over again.
With Merle you get to hear music by the people who BUILT country music instead of the wannabees and teen queens that are destroying it. Give it time, sad but true, the house that Jim Dick built is fast on it's way to losing it's crown. Especially with Storm Cloud owning them now.

"the house that Jim Dick built is fast on it's way to losing it's crown"

yeah, just not to Merle. To Q-93.1 maybe. But to say that they are losing listeners to Merle would like
saying Pavarotti was losing audience to the Banana Splits.

I really don't understand all this hostility against Ronnie Meredith and Merle. When I wrote about the Fall of the Frog, I really was'nt intending that they would lose their crown to Merle. Granted 96.7 does not have the signal to pull that off. Now if they were to have that format on 100.3 or comparable, with the right approroach, I have no doubt it could be done. I still feel that for what it has, Merle is superior to the frog OR 93.1 for that matter. Just my opinion and ya know what they say about those....But I'd much rather hear that mix of legendary artists and the new ones rather that the fluff that passes for the format these days. Yea, realistically I'm in agreement with the post earlier if there is to be a new number one,it more than likley would be 97.5.

I am surprised B-97.5 isn't #1 already. Just about every store which plays music from a radio has it on. A lot of my co-workers listen as well, but I don't know anyone who likes WIVK anymore. I bet if we had PPM here the numbers would tell a different story.

Everybody bitches about corporate radio, but it seems that some of you are no less hostile to a local owner who hired a local jock who had just been deposed from corporate radio.. Don't get it.

It makes sense that a good launch for Ryan can pull the frog down to #2 and push WJXB to #1.

No hostility here. I really love what Ron Meredith does and he's in my opinion what small town radio owners should be. But, to get WIVK numbers, you've got to have that signal strength. I can't hear Merle on air back here in Athens. So I listen to him when I am in range. Love his mix of music and local personality.

On their Facebook page they're claiming 18,000 listeners online.

From the way it sounds, if Meridith goes for a bigger stick he has to share his golden goose with more people than he probably cares to. There was a Rolex on his arm when he was on ch. 10 the other night. One of his reps calls on a friend of mine. That guy wears a Rolex, too.

Not surprised if Meridith would be pleased as punch to float up to #5, stay on 96.7, and get hand cramps from counting his money.

/A few honks and tweets on Ryan's show this afternoon, but it sounds like he's rolling with it and working the phones.
//sounds like they paid more than a buck and a half for a new mike, too.

I like what Ron's doing as well but I wish he would do more with the WGAP signal other than simulcast WYSH on it. More local stuff would be nice with announcers in Blount county.

So he borrowed the Rolex from the client to appear to be more affluent than he is? Doesn't he know, the only people
who wear Rolex watches anymore are either used car salesmen or timeshare brokers.

Nah. That could never happen. Too many other stations with better programming and promotion. Not to mention that it appears Ronnie has decided to run for any and all public offices up for a vote in Anderson County.

Have you seen the "Welcome Back" spot for Jack? You shouldn't promote a country format with John Sebastian as your music bed. Doesn't lend any real credibility to your argument of being better than WIVK.

Shhh.... be vewwy, vewwy quiet. Boogie is twying to catch a schmuck....

Awww, come back and play, boogie. Bring fivehead with you.
