JACK,SAM, whoever coming to toona?

> Heard a rumor that WALY is going to JACK.

You know that wouldn't be a smart move. WALY pulls big numbers, and Forever's version of JACK was Majic 104DOT9, which steadily declined over the four years they did that formet.

It wasn't exactly jack, though. The Majic library was pretty small, and they did have the corn-ball component, like the names: Mysterio, Adam Cadabra, and Shazam. I always called it Eddie Money 104.9, since that was all they seemed to play.

I think if the bottom was falling out of WALY, I might believe a move was coming. Still would be better to do an AC in Altoona in my opinion, instead of JACK.

If you don't count the smokin' 12+ numbers of Froggy, WALY has a fabulous showing. Doesn't seem smart to fix something that doesn't appear to be broken.

All the other area stations have been changing so WALY might as well go in a somewhat different direction. It will not be called JACK, but WALY will continue to add more songs which include many 80's records. So in a way it is going to become more like a JACK station.

I don't understand why radio people (ex or current jocks) extol the virtues of the JACK or BOB (or whatever name you want to insert) format. All the major market JACK formats are jockless. It's like you're asking to for a quick trip to the bread line and to be made obsolete. And, expanding a music library from 200 songs to 500 or 750--wow!!!! What deeper music libraries and a more eclectic offering of formats on the radio, get a satellite radio (XM has deeper libraries than Sirius).

About WALY flipping formats, I agree why screw with something that ain't broken. I heard Rog and Dick a few weeks ago talking about Dick retiring in January 2006 and being replaced by ex TV10 anchorman Chuck Farrell. Not sure if they were just screwing around, but if it's true, the WALY brand may experience some slippage in popularity.

The format that is needed in Altoona is an AC outlet. But, a format that I'd like to see is AAA; in the vein of San Francisco's KFOG, a Rock station, mixing classic stuff with new releases, and dropping in some jazz/blues (Madeline Peroux) and alternative (Jack Johnson). It would never work in Altoona though, business just wouldn't buy it.

RONNIE

The new format in Altoona will be called RONNIE.

They will play lots of Southern Rock.

FREEBIRD will kick off every hour.

Most stopsets will contain a commercial for Copenhagen or Skoal.

The station logo will contain one color of plaid or another.

A big topic on the morning program could be "30.06 boat-tail hollow point versus twelve gauge rifled slug - which has more stopping power for the PA Whitetail?"

The traffic report will give conditions on the routes that lead to all of the area methadone clinics.

The slogan will be "Yer Ignert!"

Already did (except for the logo)...Its called Q94! Lotsa Southern Fried Rock and more beer commercials and free Harly's than you can shake a stick at.

Great station....had a great idea to go classic rock too. But, has gotten wayyyyy to repetitive over the years. There's more to classic rock than Skynard and Zeppelin and the Beatles guys. Please buy some new cd's!

But then again....what do I know? Those guys are programming to folks who think that Gimme Three Steps is one of the greatest Love Songs of all Time.

:)
