Jack sounds 80's

I've been sitting here listening for about 30 minutes and so far, all I've heard is 80's rock. How long have they sounded like this?

I guess I better stick to the formats that I actually know something about....

Buc, was this "ass metal"(i.e: poison, crue, whitesnake,ect...) or "cracker rock" (i.e: Skynard, NRBQ, Black Oak Arkansas,ect..)

Probably within a year of each (since my Whitburn books are still packed away, God knows where) but I'm not seeing anything unusual for Jack here...fair amount of 80s but others mixed in as well.

Ya know, for my demo and my little listening preferences, it's not that bad of a station...BUT I tune out everytime I hear that stupid, irritating voice with that snide, sarcastic tone. Sure, it was fun at first, hearing the ex-Jack in the Box commercial guy doing those silly little bits, but three years of this has gotten REALLY old. The little cutesy cut-ins from listeners are about as banal and useless and just plain dumb. (And what idiot started calling in, in the first place? I think "Playing what WE want" about says it all.)

Wouldn't that be cool!

With everyone doing 70's sh#@ now it would make a tremendous amount of sense. Too bad Robert doesn't have more of a say in that area.. :(

We're thinking alike, billy.

I've remarked to my friends more than once when I grew sick, tired and nauseated with all the sappy Christmas music, "...look, no offense to the Baby Jesus, but I neeeeed some 'Highway to Hell' about now!!!"

I guess that it was more like the first one you said. I know that I heard Duran Duran and some others that I remember from the 80's. I was mostly listening to Jack, because I couldn't bear to hear about Tony, "Jessica [EDIT] me the night before with her [EDIT]", Romo's horrible performance yesterday. I know since Jack is jockless, so therefore there is nobody to talk about it.

[EDIT-vulgar content]

Another way of looking at that if someone was 18 (i.e. graduating high school) in the year those songs came out, how old would they be now...going on the theory that many (if not most) people's tastes are'set' in high school/college age...

Let's see, the newest in 1996. 18+11=29. The oldest is 1975. 32+18=50.

Gee think it's possible that Jack could be targeting the 25-54 demographic? The REALLY seem to be focusing in on that 79-85 window. Which makes sense. That would put your 'center target' at 40-47 or so...Play enough new stuff that you start attracting the younger crowd, but superserve the 40+ year olds that want music they know....

FYI, those "?" ones I listed are likely 2001+ songs, but since I don't track music much past the Grunge era, I wouldn't know for sure. :)

See, something like Jack's format BUT with a 'classic modern rock' approach COULD be a viable format. Jack pees in the Kool-Aid everytime they follow up a "good" song with "Cats in the Cradle" or some other light or slow AC that really belongs on another station. (With no offense meant to the late Harry Chapin.)

Ahhh but here's something to chew on. When Peggy Brooks takes over after Dr. G. retires... THE 80'S BE COMING!!!! For one thing, Peggy likes 80's music! :)

Will this also signal the return of "Hoof, Paw, Scale and Claw"? ;D

Nah, C-BS and CC discussed that over a nightcap last evening, before they crawled into their king-sized bed together and called it a night. No infringement whatsoever on Jack. Sealed with a kiss.
