CLEAR CHANNEL Active Rocker WTFX (100.5 THE FOX)/LOUISVILLE, KY has moved down the dial to 93.1 and LOUIE-FM has taken over the 100.5 location. CLEAR CHANNEL Dir./Ops. KELLY CARLS tells ALL ACCESS that LOUIE is currently looping "Louie, Louie" by THE KINGSMEN and "Brother Louie" from STORIES. No other programming plan was revealed, but one can't help but wonder if this is another hiJACKing.

Oh.... I get it.... Louie for Louisville. Brilliant.

I noticed the flip when I went out to Lunch about 1 PM this afternoon. They seem to favor the 80s, but I've heard everything from the 60s ("Brown Eyed Girl") to currents ("You And Me").

Interestingly, Louie still IDs as WTFX/Louisville. I presume The Fox is WJZL/Clarksville, Louisville and WJZO/Shelbyville, although I haven't heard it on the air yet. As Smooth Jazz 93.1 did in its final days, there's no mention of the 101.7 signal except at the top of the hour.
______________

Louie will help fill the void left by former 80s Rock 103.9 the Point. I am wondering if Louie will do some damage to sister station QMF's numbers. During the 8pm hour, QMF and Louie played "Margaritaville" within minutes of each other. Similar to other cities, I am surprise that CC did not go with Soft AC on 100.5 to compete with Cox's Lite 106.9's high revenue dollars. Perhaps, CC thinks that Louie will bring heavy competition to Cox's SFR, RKA and Lite 106.9. It will be interesting to see the outcome.

Shame all the jazz stations are starting to die. I liked listening to 93.1 at home... It had a weak signal where I live but an outside antenna at 60 feet brought it in strong. Another decent sounding station for us slow non exciting listeners down the drain for now what is hard core crap..... I guess I'll have to listen to Backstreet Boys on WVEZ lol.

Should WASE flip to Jazz? They were one of the few FM signals to do worse than WJZL/WJZO in the 12+ (which granted, doesn't really mean a whole lot), so perhaps they could pick up some improvement by default. WASE's coverage area isn't spectacular, but it's actually not that bad for being licensed to Radcliff. The only drawback is that most of downtown Louisville is just outside the 60 dBu contour.

The other possibility would be 93.7 The Duck in Seymour, once it moves to 93.9 and relicenses to Sellersburg.

I know WLRS has been mentioned in the past, but I couldn't see them flipping in the short term, especially since The Fox is now on a much weaker signal.
______________

WASE is nothing to the Louisville Market as you can see by the ratings for no telling how long..... Uhm how about 106.3 WKMO or something like that switching to Jazz or Soft Rock. Getting out of the country thing. I don't forsee 106.3 ever catching up to Big Cat 105.5 they are constantly #1 in Elizabethtown in the arbitron... Hell how about 94.3 WULF in Elizabethtown change formats. Their a 50,000 watt powerhouse that covers all of Southern INdiana, Central Kentucky, Western Kentucky that station is loud. I remember when they use to be a talk station and they sucked.

Re: The Jazz void left by Louie

I also miss the Smooth Jazz format as well, along with the Nostalgia format that was once carried by WKJK-AM 1080, another format which Clear Channel claimed it could not sell like the Smooth Jazz format on WJZL/WJZO. I have to wonder if Clear Channel was honestly putting the effort in selling these formats. I think Clear Channel has scared the competition from trying either one of these formats.

I don't see Smooth Jazz returning to the market, at least not on a full time basis. Although, I think Radio One should consider making a change with the low-rated WLRS-FM 105.1. Radio One has been running a Smooth Jazz station in Indianapolis for a while with WYJZ-FM 100.9. Maybe, Radio One's WMJM-FM 101.3 will consider a Sunday afternoon Smooth Jazz program or WFPK-FM 91.9 add a Smooth Jazz program. In Cincinnati, Susquehanna's Soft AC WRRM-FM 98.5 takes a rest from Delilah on Saturday nights and plays Smooth Jazz. Will WVEZ-FM 106.9 ever be willing to give Delilah a rest one night a week for Smooth Jazz on Saturday nights? I seriously doubt it. However, one of these may be a possibility. As for now, there are several Smooth Jazz stations online like smoothjazz4u.com where you can actually request songs.
