Jack, Tedd, & Sharon

The morning team on WFLA is as good as it gets. Talk about pros! Jack Harris, Tedd Webb, Sharon Taylor, Martin Giles, and Gary McHenry are so good they make it sound easy. Does anyone deliver better live copy than Jack or Tedd? The only weak link is the live weather bit with Jennifer Hill. "Good morning Jen, will this heat let up"? (Jen) "Well, one computer model says yes and the other says no, I really don't know and it is giving me a headache". Really does not fit the authorative atmosphere of a highly polished major market morning news, entertainment, and information program staffed with the best in the market.

What about about her bizarre, overly-dramatic pause "... for News [insert overly dramatic pause here] Radio 970, WFLA."

Years ago a great friend, Joe Hager used to reply to critics who were not in the business by saying "hey my buns are sitting in the chair and yours aren't". Having said that, in all fairness Ms. Hill does have the gig. Have to agree with the bizarre way she says the id line. Sounds as if her problem is actually with the word "radio". She comes to a halt as if she is thinking about how to say the word. It comes out as "raydo". Regardless, next to people like Harris and the group, she pales and just is not at that level of professionalism.

Only explanation I could come up with is she's making a point not to accidently say "NewsCHANNEL".... as in NewsChannel 8.

Not being able to hear Jennifer's delivery...any possibility it's intentional? The only reason I ask is, when I worked at WWRM, they wanted the tag line to have an intentionally awkward pause...

"And at our new home on 94.9 it's always......(pause)......WARM...(shorter pause)...Tampa Bay's Warm 94.9 FM..."

After the frequency shift from 107.3 they wanted to make sure everyone knew what station they were listening to.

Hi David. This sounds more like an emunciation issue rather than pause for effect. Slurring the word "radio" is secondary to the actual content of her live bits with the team. We've had July weather in late October and Harris, being the pro he is, asked what all his listeners wanted to ask, "when will the heat let up"? Answer; "I don't know, it's giving me a headache"! Man, that's cutting edge stuff! Sunny today. Dark tonight.

Know what? We're talking about her! Maybe it IS intentional..The normal run-o-the mill air talent isn;t getting taked about, but by God WE'RE discussing her..All Press Is Good Press et.al ya know?

Anyone remember the old skool sales guy from WLCY..Malcom Richards? I would hear him making sales calls from his miserable little grey cubicle and call on Coca Cola..and announce who was calling:

"Honey...tell him that MALCOM-------(3 sec)-------RICHARDS is calling..."

That pause embedded his name forever in the receptionist at Coc Cola..There was also a news guy at WBT in Charlotte (speacking of Richards etc)

His name was John or Mark, or Elliott or something, but when he was finishing the weather he would be rambling along at a good clip, and slow WAAAAY down when it came to his last name..

"61 degrees downtown, from 1110 WBT, I'm John Rich...ard......son"

never forgot the last name..can't remember the first..Hi David..do you people in Austrailia really drink bleach?

Why drink bleach when we have so many decent beers to choose from? ;)

Good stuff, Jeff. w N bc. In Erie CKLW boomed in and had great numbers. We applied for WCCK and did a "Drake type" imitation. The call letters were always wc (pause) C K....

Having said all that....Ms. Hill has trouble saying RADIO.....she says RAYDO
