Jack Update

Now that we've had several weeks of Jack, it's just as boring as the rest of Las Vegas radio. Despite the large playlist, I'm hearing many of the same songs over and over. The lack of air talent also causes the station to sound boring after a while (although not having air talent is certainly better than hiring folks like those heard on many of the local stations). The Jack-voice guy is good (and sometimes funny), but since he's the only voice on the station (except spots), he gets old fast.

> Larry---I totally agree with you! I wish they had a good morning show....For that matter, outside of Mark & Mercedes locally, and of course Howard Stern, I just don't listen to morning radio...it's blah....
Morning radio has gotten so over researched. There's no gut or fun left anymore. The days of picking the right people and letting them do their thing are gone.
When I first started in radio, for example, if there was an opening for mornings, and the guy was making 50k, management used to be smart, and say, well, lets find the right person for 55k... Now it's every cost cutting cookie cutter method that they can find. It's really too bad.
They had a good thing, and they -----ed it all up!

Spoken like a true out-of-work has-been jock. You make it sound like what Mark & Mercedes do isn't formula. If that isn't cookie cutter I don't what is. Let's see....set up...phone bit...punch line...commercial break...traffic...song...liner...segue...song...(repeat) That is M&M EVERY DAY. As far as that goes...they're good at what they do...HOWARD? No one can take away from Howard's accomplishments...but truly how many kissing lesbians or make fun of midget/speech impedement/freak bits can you do over and over??? Let's also keep in mind...Howard's resources far outweigh the combined efforts of all of the local morning shows combined.

As far as the initial topic...I'm disappointed in JACK. It's been on for a bit and I can't believe how poorly it has been done. It costs a fortune to change formats...I don't know where they spent the money. It sure wasn't on the overall sound of the station. The imaging is weak...it's as if the PD is producing everything. The automation is done with all the care of a small town $5 an hour board op. I've even heard them do remotes. I can't imagine successful JACKS around the country sounding this bad.

I have come to the belief that after an initial bump...and if STAR sticks to its guns...JACK will be mired in the three-share range along with STAR, KKLZ and the Point. I liked it initially...but am wholly unimpressed with its lack of progress.

I agree!!

True. I've heard lots of loose segues and dead air between events. In my experience - AudioVault's are prone to do this, but it can be fixed if you have someone who knows what they are doing. Apparently that's not the case here.
