I'm not just talking about Alanis Morisette.
When I heard that Oldies flipped to JACK, I was initially shocked. It is nothing short of IRONIC that a company can claim people want their radio station to be more responsive/appealing to their tastes, while cranking out a tasteless jukebox that will appeal to no one in particular. And pulling the plug on the DJs which could have provided listeners with utmost appeal if left on the air.
It's no secret why small town WPST is number one in Trenton NJ and surrounding metro towns. It completely beats out anything Philly can offer, in terms of live, LOCAL programming. And it just tastes better than bland WIOQ (Philly's #1 hit music station), WBEN (Philly's 'Jack'), etc.
Now you have stations claiming to offer more but it's clear as day they're instead cutting out radio's appeal from under it. Whatever was left. That's what I find ironic about it.
So it's no longer surprising to me that JACK was sent to 101 instead of on 102.7. Because replacing the failure 102.7 would've only made sense. Blink/Mix is not different than a Jack. They're trying to create more Jack. And trick listeners into thinking they're doing us a favor. It's all about cutting costs. Jack is cheap, and so is Mix. Oldies as a format is more laden with salaries.
